The place of affliction that is merely dependent exists. Ananda, therefore, that which is not present in something, it is empty of that. Although one correctly sees accordingly, whatever remains in it, that exists in it. Thus, one fully understands as it is. Ananda, entering into emptiness is thus as it is, it is not inverted. Ananda, furthermore, if a monk desires: Alas, I should abide in emptiness many times. Ananda, that monk should not attend to the sphere of infinite consciousness, and the sphere of nothingness, but should attend to the signless realm, or some part of it. He thinks thus: This form of consciousness is like this, although it is empty of the sphere of infinite consciousness, and the sphere of nothingness, but it is like this, merely relying on the signless realm, or some part of it, there is a non-empty existence. For him, the sphere of infinite consciousness, and relying on the sphere of nothingness, those places of affliction that are, those are not present, but for him, it is like this, merely relying on the signless realm, or some part of it, the place of affliction exists. Ananda, therefore, that which is not present in something, it is empty of that. Although one correctly sees accordingly, whatever remains in it, that exists in it, thus one fully understands as it is. Ananda, entering into emptiness is thus as it is, it is not inverted. He thinks thus: For the signless realm, which has also been manifestly accumulated, and manifestly contemplated by the mind, one should not manifestly rejoice, one should not manifestly speak of, one should not especially be attached to, one should not especially be attached to and abide in. Knowing thus and seeing thus, the mind is completely liberated from the leakage of desire, and also from the leakage of existence and the leakage of ignorance. Being completely liberated, I have exhausted birth, the pure conduct has been shown, what had to be done has been done, I will not know another existence from this. Thus, it becomes only the seeing of the wisdom of liberation.

Furthermore, he thinks thus: 'This mode of perception is such that, although it is empty of the outflows of desire, the outflows of existence, and the outflows of ignorance, yet for this, it seems thus: relying solely on the body of the six sense-spheres that is made animate, there are also non-empty aspects.' For that, although those places of affliction that rely on the outflows of desire, the outflows of existence, and the outflows of ignorance are not present, yet for that, it seems thus: merely relying on the body of the six sense-spheres that is made animate, there are still places of affliction. Kungawo, therefore, that which is absent in something, it is empty of that. Although one correctly sees accordingly, yet in the village, only that which is without outflows and not manifestly assembled, or relying on some of those, there are also non-empty aspects. For that, although those places of affliction that rely on the perception of earth and the perception of the sphere of infinite space are not present, yet for that, it seems thus: only the perception of the sphere of infinite consciousness, or merely relying on some of those, there are still places of affliction.
