nor experience it much. Shariputra, whether it be a son or daughter of good family who hears, upholds, recites, reads, teaches, extensively explains, and fully comprehends the names of those Tathagata Bhagavat, that person will never be separated from direct perception until reaching the essence of enlightenment. They will never be separated from names, never be separated from dharanis, never be without complete faculties, never be separated from extremely vast sounds, never be separated from the sound of drums, never be separated from the place of giving and non-retrogression, never be separated from the flowers of the limbs of enlightenment, and never be separated from the extremely vast Mahayana sutras. Shariputra, there is no such situation or opportunity that a woman who hears, upholds, recites, reads, teaches, extensively explains, and fully comprehends the names of those Tathagata Bhagavat will obtain the body of a woman twice; this is impossible, except by the power of aspiration. Shariputra, there is no such situation or opportunity that if a son or daughter of good family hears, upholds, recites, reads, teaches, extensively explains, and fully comprehends the names of those Tathagata Bhagavat, that son or daughter of good family will be frightened by a king, or by thieves, or by fire, or by water, or by fierce beings, or by nagas, or by yakshas, or by gandharvas, or by asuras, or by humans, or by non-humans, or be taken advantage of by anything; this is impossible, except for the ripening of intense karma, and even then, they will experience only a small portion and will not experience much. Whatever worldly or transcendental activities they undertake, it is to be hoped that those virtuous qualities will increase and not decrease. Then, the Bhagavat at that time spoke these verses: Those who uphold the names of those protectors of the world, having completely abandoned all unfavorable conditions, quickly reach

Will go to prosperity. By pleasing the appearance of the Buddhas, He will see the teacher with faith, And after seeing the lamp of the world, He will make good offerings. In countless billions of kalpas, He will completely abandon samsara. Through whom he will be able to see the guides, He will also completely purify the stainless eye. Those names of the protectors of the world, Who will hold? Wherever and wherever he is born, Will be worthy of worship in the world. His form and marks will be perfect, He will be born in a wealthy family. He will be brave and become the master of generosity, He will be without stinginess and give generously. Who holds these names, In many billions of kalpas, The fragrance of the red sandalwood of the gods, Will come out of his mouth. If women hear those great hermits', Names, The woman will completely abandon her female identity, And will be transformed into a wise man. Who holds these names, Father And mother and brothers, And the retinues of friends and relatives, Will never see suffering. Who holds these names, He and they in the world, Will be born in the precious lotus, With thousands of petals. Who holds these names, In all Buddha lands, He will walk from the sky, And the Buddha land of the protector of the world, Will be able to see completely pure. In the presence of the protectors of the world, He will listen to the profound Dharma, And will not forget what he has heard. Who holds these names, For them, the sinful demon, With black clawed hands, Will never find an opportunity. Who holds these names, They will not be killed by weapons, Nor poison and fire, The king and the thief, Will not harm them. The gods and nagas and yakshas, And gandharvas and Kumbhāṇḍas (Sanskrit: Kumbhāṇḍa, a kind of ghost) with large bellies, Will not find an opportunity either. These Buddhas are the best of men, The essence of glory, the king of dragons, After being wise and cautious, Who is the wise man who does not hold these names? Who hears all the protectors of the world, These names, Those people will hear with ceremony, After hearing the names of the famous ones, They will be brave and wise.

Extremely excellent! The supreme among people in the world becomes a Buddha. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, the venerable Shariputra and all the retinue who were present, and the world with gods, humans, asuras, and gandharvas rejoiced and highly praised what the Bhagavan had said. The Mahayana Sutra called "The Noble Eight Buddhas" is complete. It was revised and finalized by the Indian Abbot Jinamitra, Surendrabodhi, and the translator-monk Yeshe De of Zhuchen.
