The Noble Great Vehicle Sutra Called "The Eight Buddhas". The Noble Great Vehicle Sutra Called "The Eight Buddhas". In Sanskrit: Arya Ashta Buddha Kam Nama Mahayana Sutra. In Tibetan: The Noble Great Vehicle Sutra Called "The Eight Buddhas". I prostrate to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika, together with a great Sangha of one thousand two hundred and fifty monks. All of them were Arhats, their outflows exhausted, without afflictions, endowed with power, their minds utterly liberated, their wisdom utterly liberated, knowers, great elephants, having done what was to be done, having accomplished what was to be accomplished, having cast off the burden, having attained their own benefit, all bonds of existence completely exhausted, their minds utterly liberated by perfect knowledge, having reached the supreme shore of all mastery of mind. Except for one person, namely the Venerable Ananda. At that time, the Venerable Shariputra was also gathered there with his retinue. Then, in that very instant, this realm of the three-thousand great-thousand worlds shook in six ways. Without being struck, sounds of billions of hundreds of thousands of celestial music also arose from the sky. Showers of divine flowers, Mandarava, great Mandarava, Manjushaka, and great Manjushaka flowers also fell, and the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, the Garden of Anathapindika, was completely filled with a scattering of precious flowers. Then, in that very instant, this realm of the three-thousand great-thousand worlds, endowed with everything, was pervaded by a great light of golden color. Then, in that very instant, from the east appeared eight lotus trees, the trunks of which were gold, the petals silver, the stamens beryl, and the hearts composed of the essence of jewels. Upon the heart of each lotus was a square lion throne, supported by four pillars, radiant, beautiful to behold, filled with fragrance, pleasing, spread with silk cushions, with incense from incense burners.
