Hearing this, ninety-two hundred thousand kotis of nayutas of beings of the Hearer Vehicle, as many as ten fire-spark motes, generated the mind for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. They attained their respective irreversible grounds. Then, the Blessed One addressed the venerable Subhuti, saying: Subhuti, knowing all dharmas through the perception of conditions, beings of the world, through the wisdom arising from the aggregation of conditions, have crossed the ocean of life. All aggregates of darkness will be destroyed. For example, the dark moons exhaust the limits of darkness. Light is the condition for the moon. The condition for light is perception. The condition for perception is formation. The condition for formation is consciousness, and until then, the aggregate of suffering will arise. Therefore, one does not conceive of space as light. Space is not light. One does not fail to know that perception is not light. One does not conceive of perception as light. Here, by ceasing light, perception ceases. By ceasing perception, formation ceases, and until then, the great aggregate of suffering will also cease. At that same time, the Blessed One, from explaining the prophecy, Eighty hundred thousand kotis of beings of the Hearer Vehicle generated the mind for the Solitary Realizer Vehicle. They each attained samadhi free from defilements. They became irreversible from the Solitary Realizer Vehicle. Then, the Blessed One again addressed the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, how long is the Dharma of a Shramana called the Dharma of a Shramana, and when is one called a Shramana? Subhuti replied: Blessed One, what is called the Dharma of a Shramana is the three trainings; Blessed One, that is called the Dharma of a Shramana. The Blessed One said: It is so, it is so. Subhuti, the training in higher discipline, higher mind, and higher wisdom is called the Dharma of a Shramana. Here, what is the training in higher discipline? A Shramana is restrained by individual liberation, becomes disciplined, is fully endowed with the dust of the sphere of conduct, views faults as terrifying, and all

These words of learning discipline are called the learning of higher morality. The learning of higher mind is to abide in the four abodes of Brahma, therefore, to be filled with loving-kindness and fill the entire world, until it is fully expanded, this is called the learning of higher mind. What is the learning of higher wisdom? These are the four noble truths, which four? Namely, the noble truth of suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. What is the noble truth of suffering? Namely, the suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, the suffering of sickness, the suffering of death, the suffering of encountering the unpleasant, the suffering of separation from the pleasant, the suffering of not obtaining what is desired, and in short, the suffering of the aggregates of grasping, this is called the noble truth of suffering. What is the origin of suffering? Whoever has desire and attachment for something will become like that. What is the cessation of suffering? The complete abandonment of the manifestation of desire, no longer arising, without exhaustion, free from attachment, pacified, this is called the cessation of suffering. What is the noble truth of diligently going to the cessation of suffering? Namely, thus, the limbs of the noble path are as follows: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration, these are called the eightfold noble path. Whatever has occurred in the past, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, they and the most excellent Dharma spoken by the Shravakas of the Tathagata are these four noble truths. Therefore, in the immeasurable and countless Buddha-fields of the ten directions, the Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha abides, lives, and protects. The sentient beings of the Buddha-field of the five degenerations

The Dharma is taught to sentient beings. Those Tathagatas, with their form bodies, and likewise the Shravakas, expound the ultimate Dharma of truth, which is this: the Four Noble Truths. Whatever slightly changes in the past, those Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas, also with the form bodies of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Enlightened Buddhas, and likewise the Shravakas, expound the ultimate Dharma of truth, which is this: these are the Four Noble Truths. Whenever all that is past, future, and present occurs, that Tathagata, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, this is a word of truth. Therefore, this is the superior wisdom training among the Four Noble Truths, and the Bhagavan has also said that the Noble Truths have been revealed, so that countless, immeasurable, boundless, and uncountable sentient beings of the Shravaka vehicle attain the stage of non-arising, some attain the crown, some attain forbearance, and some comprehend the supreme Dharmas of the world. Some attain the fruit of stream-enterer, some attain the fruit of once-returner, some attain the fruit of non-returner, and some perfectly attain the fruit of Arhat, free from all defilements. The chapter called 'Separate and Proper Conduct, Forbearance of Taming by the Light Dancing in the Sky' is the eighth chapter of the Mahayana Sutra. Noble and Proper Conduct, Forbearance of Taming by the Color of the Sky, is the eighth chapter from the Mahayana Sutra.
