The eighth chapter of the Great Vehicle Sutra, "The Noble Conduct of Righteousness, the Patience of Subduing with the Color of the Sky." The eighth chapter of the Great Vehicle Sutra, "The Noble Conduct of Righteousness, the Patience of Subduing with the Color of the Sky." Eighth fascicle. Then, the Blessed One entered the Samadhi of Invisible Adornment. Therefore, after the Thus-Gone One entered Samadhi, rays of various colors emanated from the Blessed One's face. From all ten directions, from Buddha-fields in the five turbid realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, light arose. From all ten directions, light went to the Buddha-fields in the five turbid realms as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River. When those who are Shravakas and sentient beings who go to the Shravaka Vehicle touch the light, Shravakas and sentient beings who go to the Shravaka Vehicle will similarly experience form, body, and the feeling of happiness. For example, a monk without joy who enters the third Dhyana Samadhi looks in the four directions. The Blessed One Shakyamuni Buddha previously said that if one looks within half a yojana, one can see all the decorated mountains filled with fragrant scents. One should look at the fragrant mountains filled with the nature of the seven jewels, which are filled with Bodhisattvas. By the power of the Blessed One, they went to where the Blessed One Shakyamuni Buddha was. In an instant, opening the space, the Bodhisattvas appeared before the Blessed One. The Shravaka assembly and the sentient beings of the Shravaka Vehicle also went to where the Blessed One was, and appeared before the Blessed One in order to listen to the Dharma. Furthermore, the assembly of the Great Shravaka Vehicle gathered and resided separately in the town of Kuru. They also correctly recognized the light, and together arose from that state filled with joy and happiness without impurity, and saw the Blessed One residing on the fragrant mountain. Surrounded and attended by the assembly of Bodhisattvas and the assembly of Shravakas, having seen the great adornment, they also correctly recognized other things.

Listen, monks. I am now on the mountain where the Thus-Gone One dwells, filled with the fragrance of incense, surrounded by great adornments and a vast assembly. I have also approached the Blessed One's location in order to hear the Dharma. Then, as many great Hearers as there are in this Buddha-field of the Saha world, and as many Hearers and Hearer-vehicle practitioners as there are, are also present to listen to the Dharma from the Blessed One. Countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable Hearers, and countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable sentient beings of the Hearer-vehicle, are present before the Blessed One to listen to the Dharma. Then, the Blessed One called to the venerable Subhuti, saying: Subhuti, this is called maturation and ripening. Subhuti, up to that extent, it is called ripening. Subhuti replied: Blessed One, since the characteristic of ripening appears, the characteristic of the Thus-Gone One's ripening, like a vast treasury of space, not a single sentient being will pass into nirvana. Why is that? Because all those sentient beings are afraid and terrified, not one of them has even the slightest aspiration for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Thus, the immeasurable characteristics of the Thus-Gone One, each characteristic of ripening, is without form, without characteristics, and without substance. All bodies are free from characteristics, and all the Buddhadharmas are equal like space, and there is no separate establishment in the formless. This is the separate establishment of consciousness within the Buddhadharma. There is no establishment of the eye-element in the Buddhadharma, this is because of the ripening of the Buddhadharma, and up to the mind-element there is no establishment, so it is the ripening of the Buddhadharma. There is no establishment of the form-element, this is because of the ripening of the Buddhadharma, and up to touch there is no separate establishment. Furthermore, there is no separate establishment of the earth-element, this is because of the ripening of the Buddhadharma, and up to the wind-element there is no separate establishment, so it is the ripening of the Buddha-field. There is no separate establishment of the desire-realm, this is because of the ripening of the Buddhadharma, and up to the form-realm there is no separation.
