Knowing. To perceive permanence in impermanence. To perceive beauty in ugliness. To perceive purity in impurity. To perceive truth in what is not true. Great King, the five aggregates are painted by one's own actions. Great King, for example, the tail feathers of a peacock have five colors, but they are not painted by a painter, nor is there any paint. They are painted by their own actions. Great King, similarly, ordinary people are also painted by their own actions, arising from mutual causes. Then, from within that assembly, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva named Invincible Lord rose from his seat, circumambulated the Blessed One, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, bent his body, and with his ten fingers joined in prayer, addressed the Blessed One thus: Blessed One, these aggregates are of unpleasant color and foul odor, exuding blood and pus, resembling trees, reeds, walls, and roads, lacking essence, lacking stability, yet ordinary people perceive them as essence. This is not true, like the blind, like the foolish, indulging in delusion, covered by darkness, dizziness, and cataracts, obscured by the dense thickets of all views. Blessed One, these four Dharma aggregates are profound, like and similar to the sky. Blessed One, who will be able to generate correct understanding of these sutra statements? After he had spoken thus, the Blessed One, Born from a Lotus, said to that Bodhisattva Mahasattva: Son of good family, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva appears, he appears for the purpose of taming sentient beings, and teaches the Dharma to sentient beings according to their inclinations. He cuts off the craving of those who are afflicted by craving. He alleviates the sorrow of those who are afflicted by suffering. Knowing that all dharmas are without essence, knowing them to be like and similar to the sky, he thoroughly establishes sentient beings in the nature of Dharma. At that time, Bodhi

Those Bodhisattvas tame sentient beings, hence they are called Bodhisattvas. The Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, who arose from the lotus, when he spoke this teaching of taming sentient beings, the king Victory-obtained (Victorious One) with his son, and the queen Jewel Auspicious, the retinue of consorts, and all the retinue of servants, shaved their hair and beards and went forth from the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One spoke to those retinues, saying: "Sons of good family, look at this young prince. Sons of good family, this great man has planted roots of virtue in ninety-nine billion hundred thousand myriads of Buddhas, and has become a speaker of Dharma in all places. This is always the other shore of this great man, and this great man has always brought to complete maturity the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment. Sons of good family, this young prince Jewel Source will become a Buddha soon after I have completely passed into Nirvana, sitting under the Bodhi tree adorned with many jewels. When he attains enlightenment, he will become the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Blissful One, the Knower of the World, the Guide of Men to be Tamed, the Unequaled One, the Teacher of Gods and Men, the Buddha, the Blessed One, named King of Radiance Manifesting Supreme Glory. The world will be called Perfectly Adorned with Jewels in Every Way. His monastic community of hearers will be immeasurable. The length of his life will be able to last for ninety-six billion hundred thousand myriads of eons. The likeness of his sacred Dharma will remain for seventy-five million years. Sons of good family, from then on, when the prophecy of the Bodhisattva Mahasattva was spoken, eighty-four thousand beings obtained forbearance in the Dharma of non-arising. Sons of good family, if you doubt or waver, or have second thoughts, thinking that the Tathagata of that time and that era is someone else, you should not look at it that way. Why is that? Sons of good family, the Tathagata, the Arhat,

This Blessed One, Arhat, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, named Amitabha, at that time, at that moment, became the Tathagata named Born from a Lotus, and taught the Dharma in that world. Son of the lineage, at that time, at that moment, if you doubt or hesitate or have doubts, thinking that the youth named Jewel Source is another incarnation, you should not think like that. Why is that? Son of the lineage, this Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, at that time, at that moment, became the son of the king named Victorious King, and that Tathagata prophesied, 'He will attain enlightenment from me.' Then, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva of that retinue, named Victorious Joy, folded his ten fingers and prostrated to the Blessed One, and said to the Blessed One, 'Blessed One, if this Dharma teaching is not even heard by sentient beings who have not generated roots of virtue, what need is there to mention those who write it, have others write it, uphold it, recite it, and offer it with flowers, incense, and fragrant incense?' Then, the Blessed One spoke to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Victorious Joy, saying, 'Son of the lineage, those who have served and honored Buddhas, Blessed Ones, as numerous as the sands of the Ganges River, will obtain this sutra. Son of the lineage, those sentient beings who hear these Dharma teachings and do not doubt will be reborn in the Sukhavati world after they die from here. Son of the lineage, wherever there are places where such sutras are upheld, those places should be revered. Son of the lineage, in a future time, in a future age, if any woman upholds or reads this Dharma teaching, that woman will be reborn in the Sukhavati world after her death, and that will be the last life of that woman. At the time of death, she will also see the Tathagata Amitabha.' After the Blessed One spoke thus, the Bodhisattva Mahasattva Victorious Joy
