The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called "Admonishing the King". The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called "Admonishing the King". In Indian language: Rāja deśa nāma mahāyāna sūtra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called "Admonishing the King". Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden in the realm of Prince Jeta, together with a great community of monks and a very large community of Bodhisattvas. At that time, the Blessed One addressed the assembly, saying, "Today is the time to tame King Image-Heart (Gzugs can snying po), so we should go to the land of Magadha." Having said this, he and his retinue soared into the sky like a king of geese. The minister Moon-Excellent (Zla ba bzang po) saw this and said to the king, "O King, the Buddha and his retinue have come to our land, so it is appropriate to adorn the city and offer hospitality." The king said, "In Jambudvipa, there is no one greater than me, so whom should I offer hospitality to?" He became arrogant again. Then, at the gate of King Image-Heart's (Gzugs can snying po) palace, a seat was prepared, and the Blessed One and his retinue sat down. Knowing that they were seated, the king sent a great strongman called Elevation to hurl a very large stone at the Blessed One. The stone soared into the sky, and from it came this sound: "Alas! Conditioned things are impermanent. They are of the nature of arising and ceasing. If there is birth, there is death. If there is gathering, there is separation. If there is accumulation, there is exhaustion. Even the color of youth is robbed by disease. Even the time of life is robbed by death. If one is attached, suffering increases. If one is weary, one will be liberated." When King Image-Heart (Gzugs can snying po) heard these words, he was inspired and immediately went forward, folded his palms, and stood there. The Blessed One said to him, "Great King, you should have faith in the Dharma. You should understand it. You should accept the teachings. You should become disillusioned." The king asked, "Blessed One, what should I be disillusioned with? What should I be weary of?" The Blessed One replied, "You should be disillusioned and weary of samsara." The king asked, "Why?"
