The Noble Sutra of the Great Vehicle: The Questions of Dhrtarastra The Noble Sutra of the Great Vehicle: The Questions of Dhrtarastra In Sanskrit: Arya Rapala Pariprccha Nama Mahayana Sutra. In Tibetan: The Noble Sutra of the Great Vehicle: The Questions of Dhrtarastra. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in Rajagrha, on Vulture Peak Mountain, together with a great community of monks, a sangha of twelve hundred and fifty monks. Then, the venerable Dhrtarastra rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, knelt on his right knee, bowed his head to the feet of the Blessed One, and, with palms joined, said this to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, what kind of beings will cause the decline of the Tathagata's teachings? What are they like?" Having said this, the Blessed One said to the venerable Dhrtarastra: "Dhrtarastra, these two places are spoken of by the Blessed One. What two? The place of a monk and the place of laxity. Among these, the place of a monk is any side that possesses morality. The place of laxity is any side that violates morality. Dhrtarastra, a monk who wishes to be completely liberated from suffering should train in these two places. What two? One should very carefully guard oneself with the aggregate of morality, and one should focus on oneself, and not focus on others. How does one focus on oneself and not focus on others? One should examine oneself in this way: 'Do I want to exhaust my own aggregate of suffering? Or do I want to awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment?' If one wishes to be completely liberated from suffering through the Hearer Vehicle, then one should only train in the training of the Hearers, and one should be restrained by the Pratimoksha vows."
