The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called 'The Question of Noble Kshemaṅkara' The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called 'The Question of Noble Kshemaṅkara' In Indian language: Ārya-kshemaṅkara-paripṛcchā-nāma-mahāyāna-sūtra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of the Great Vehicle Called 'The Question of Noble Kshemaṅkara'. Homage to all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Thus have I heard. At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the place of Ser-skya in the land of the Shakyas, in the Nyagrodha Grove of the Shakyas, together with a great community of five hundred monks. Then, a Shakya son named Kshemaṅkara arose from the great city of Ser-skya and went to the Nyagrodha Grove, where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat down on one side. Then, the Shakya son Kshemaṅkara, in the presence of the Blessed One, respectfully folded his palms and said to the Blessed One: "Blessed One, with what qualities does a Bodhisattva become irreversible from unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Even with little effort, will he manifest and accomplish the thirty-two marks of a great being? Will he go from Buddha-field to Buddha-field? Will he experience the time of death without confusion? Even after birth, will he possess the five superknowledges? Will he completely abandon all unfavorable conditions and obtain leisure and fortune? Will he also obtain dharani? Will he also possess unobstructed eloquence? Possessing irreversible dharma, will he also have a special devotion to emptiness? Will he always rejoice in ordination? Even while living at home, will he always rejoice in pure conduct?" Having asked this, the Blessed One said to the young Shakya son Kshemaṅkara: "Son of good family, your intention to ask the Tathagata about this matter is because, son of good family, you benefit many beings, bring happiness to many beings, have compassion for the world, for the sake of the benefit of the majority of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans."

Having entered (the Dharma). Excellent, excellent! Therefore, son of good family, listen well and thoroughly, and keep it in mind, and I will tell you. A Bodhisattva who possesses four qualities will attain those merits as mentioned before. What are the four? Son of good family, here, a Bodhisattva possesses the power of patience and abides in patience. Even if others scold, they do not scold back; even if they strike, they do not strike back; even if they expose faults, they do not expose faults back; even if they are angry, they do not get angry back. Son of good family, a Bodhisattva who possesses these four qualities will not regress from unexcelled, perfect enlightenment, and will also attain the abundant merits as mentioned before. The Bhagavan spoke thus. After the Sugata spoke thus, the Teacher likewise spoke the following words: Even if reviled in every way, one does not revile back, Having been harmed, one does not harm others. Having abandoned the human body, The Bodhisattva also attains those merits. Always guarding sinful words, Not being controlled by sinful thoughts. Returning from sin and attaining that fruit, One will quickly attain supreme wisdom. Those who delight in strife and disturbance, And those who harbor anger and harmful thoughts, Having completely abandoned the wisdom of the Buddha, Those foolish ones will possess unbearable suffering. Therefore, do not quarrel with others, Abandon the stick of punishment towards those with and without cause. Benefiting all sentient beings and possessing compassion, He will quickly attain supreme wisdom here. Foolish people are subdued by anger, They are far from the teachings of the wise in the world, They are bound by wrong views. Therefore, the wise should not quarrel. A Bodhisattva here does not get angry, Guarding the truth and not harming others, Having perfected these rare practices, He will be adorned with the thirty-two marks. Fools always decline and harbor hatred, Here, they do not even respect their parents. The root of affliction is pervasive in everything, These are the faults of inferior beings. Therefore, one should always rely on patience alone. The Bhikshu Dharma speaker (should speak thus).
