Chapter Thirty-Four: The Chapter on Giving with Joy. Chapter Thirty-Four: The Chapter on Giving with Joy. The Noble King of Samādhi Sūtra, Volume Eleven. Then, the Blessed One spoke again to the youth Moonbeam, saying: Youth, therefore, if a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva desires this samādhi, and desires to quickly attain the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, he should abide in the signless and diligently make vast offerings to the stūpas of the Tathāgatas, whether the Tathāgatas are living or have passed into complete nirvāṇa. Youth, if a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva generates the mind focused on all sentient beings, desiring this samādhi and desiring to quickly attain the unexcelled, perfect, complete enlightenment, he should abide in the signless, not expecting karmic results, and with his own body and life, make vast offerings to the stūpas of the Tathāgatas, whether the Tathāgatas are living or have passed into complete nirvāṇa. This samādhi, the equality of the nature of all dharmas, the manifestation of suchness, should be extensively taught to others with a loud and pleasing voice, with distinguished words and continuous letters, with a mind focused on great compassion, and with attention. It should be well recited. It should be well explained. Why is that? Youth, the root and basis of all dharmas is this King of Samādhi, the equality of the nature of all dharmas, the manifestation of suchness. Youth, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva, with great compassion and with the steadfast effort of skillful means, diligently makes vast offerings to the stūpas of the Tathāgatas, whether the Tathāgatas are living or have passed into complete nirvāṇa, and also extensively teaches this King of Samādhi, the equality of the nature of all dharmas, the manifestation of suchness, to others, at that time, Youth, that Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva abides in the gate of liberation of emptiness, signlessness, and wishlessness.

Thus it becomes. He does not cling to any dharma. A Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in the yoga of non-clinging Samadhi will abide in all aspirations. Young man, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who abides in all aspirations will fulfill all the aspirations of himself and all sentient beings. He will also quickly attain this Samadhi and quickly attain the Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment. Young man, it should also be understood in this way. Young man, in the past, at a time that was more countless, vast, immeasurable, inconceivable, and incalculable than countless kalpas, at that time, the Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, Unsurpassed Charioteer of those to be tamed, Teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, named Melodious Voice Tathagata, appeared in the world. Young man, that Melodious Voice Tathagata, Arhat, Samyak-sambuddha, established countless immeasurable sentient beings in the state of exhaustion of defilements and Arhatship. After establishing them well and completely passing into Nirvana, he also established countless immeasurable sentient beings in the irreversible state of Unsurpassed Perfect Enlightenment, and completely passed into Nirvana. Young man, at that time, in Jambudvipa, there was a king named Auspicious Voice. In order to make offerings to the Tathagata who had completely passed into Nirvana, he built eighty-four thousand stupas containing the heart of the Tathagata's relics. Each stupa was offered eighty-four thousand lamps. Similarly, each stupa was also offered eighty-four thousand musical instruments, cymbals, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, and flags. Young man, in this way, King Auspicious Voice made offerings to the stupas containing the heart of the Tathagata's relics.

Having made offerings to those possessing the essence of relics, he accumulated many Bodhisattvas, eighty kotis, hundreds of thousands of nayutas of Bodhisattvas, and diligently made offerings to all those great Bodhisattvas with all things of happiness. All those great Bodhisattvas were also preachers of the Dharma, possessing uninterrupted fearlessness, well-attained Samadhi, well-attained Dharani without attachment, teaching the Dharma of true qualities, teaching the completely pure Dharma, entirely the supreme Paramitas of Bodhisattvas. At that time, in that assembly, there was a great Bodhisattva named "Given by Joy," a young child with black hair, possessing the first youth, his age at its prime, not distracted by desires, practicing celibacy as a youth, having been ordained as a Bhikshu for one year. At that time, King Glorious Light entreated those great assemblies of Bodhisattvas, that is, in order to truly gather the six Paramitas, the great Dharani of the Bodhisattva Pitaka, skillful means, and in order to manifest the attainment of power and discipline without attachment, he entreated those great Bodhisattvas. That night, in front of the stupa possessing the essence of the Tathagata's relics, he lit hundreds of thousands of nayutas of butter lamps, swept the courtyard mandala, sprinkled it with scented water, scattered flowers, and spread various bedding. That King Glorious Light, together with his retinue of consorts, the retinue of town and country people, and the townspeople, came out of their houses, carrying musical instruments, cymbals, hand drums, flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, powders, clothes, umbrellas, banners, and flags, and having made offerings to the stupa possessing the essence of the Tathagata's relics, they ascended to the roof together with the retinue of consorts in order to listen to the Dharma. The retinue of gods and humans also came to listen to the Dharma.
