May [he/she] be fully enlightened to perfection. In this regard, it is said: All dharmas are without substance; all are without characteristics and without essence. There is neither arising nor ceasing; thus, one should thoroughly understand all dharmas. All are without substance and without letters; empty, peaceful, and primordially without defilement. Whoever knows the dharmas in this way, that youth is also called a Buddha. Therefore, those who elaborate on the equality of nature, by their very nature, all dharmas are without self-nature. Whoever desires this mother of the Sugata, will obtain this mother of the Victorious Ones. Young one, therefore, in this way, one should understand through these various names as well. Young one, in the past, in a time that has passed, more immeasurable than countless eons, vast, immeasurable, inconceivable, limitless, at that time, the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed tamer of beings, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha, Bhagavan, called 'Born from No-Thingness,' appeared in the world. Young one, what do you think? Why is that Tathagata called 'Born from No-Thingness'? Young one, as soon as that Tathagata was born, he rose seven talas high into the sky above, took seven steps, and spoke these words: 'All dharmas arise from no-thingness.' 'All dharmas arise from no-thingness.' Young one, the sound of that voice made the three-thousandfold great thousandfold world realm aware. Then, from the earth deities up to the Brahma world, the sound proclaimed, and the sound made it known, 'Alas! As soon as this Tathagata was born, he rose seven talas high into the sky above, took seven steps, and uttered the sound of no-thingness, therefore he is called 'Born from No-Thingness.' The name 'Born from No-Thingness,' 'Born from No-Thingness' was given. When that Bhagavan attained enlightenment, all the leaves and roots of all the trees, and the tree sap, and all the forests, and

From all the peaks also came the sound saying, it arose from non-substantiality. In that world, from all that are named as sound, came the sound discerning that it arose from non-substantiality. At that time, in the teachings of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, who arose from non-substantiality, appeared a young prince named Great Compassionate Heart, who was handsome, beautiful, and pleasing to behold. From then on, that young prince Great Compassionate Heart went to where the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, who arose from non-substantiality, was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, circumambulated the Blessed One three times, and then sat down to one side. Then, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened Buddha, who arose from non-substantiality, knowing the superior intention of the young prince Great Compassionate Heart, spoke this samadhi. Having heard this samadhi, he became very devoted, and because his mind was very devoted, he shaved his hair and beard, put on the ochre robes, and with devotion went forth from home to homelessness. Having gone forth, he held this samadhi. Having held, remembered, read, and fully understood it, he remained diligently in the practice of yoga. By that root of virtue, he never fell into the lower realms for twenty million kalpas. He pleased twenty million Buddhas, and from all those Tathagatas he heard this samadhi. Having heard it from all those Buddhas, he also held it, fully understood it, remembered it, read it, recited it, practiced it without afflictions, increased it, and remained diligently in the practice of yoga. By that root of virtue, after twenty kalpas had passed, a Tathagata, an Arhat, a Perfectly Enlightened Buddha named Meaning Well Thought appeared in the world. He fully ripened countless immeasurable beings, worked for the benefit of immeasurable beings, and thereafter, like a fire with exhausted fuel, completely

also passed into nirvana. Young man, therefore, in this way, this samadhi is cherished by the Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, and it should be known that it is for perfecting the unsurpassed wisdom of the Buddha. Then, the Blessed One, at that time, extensively and correctly narrated this previous life story to the youth Moonbeam in verses. In the past, immeasurable kalpas ago, I remember there appeared a lord of humans, a great ascetic who accomplished benefits in an excellent way, whose name was "Born from No Thing." As soon as he was born, he rose into the sky and showed that all dharmas are without things. At that time, to be in accordance with him, he was given this name, and the sound became famous throughout the world. All the gods uttered sounds, saying, "He will become a victor named 'No Thing.'" As soon as he was born, he took seven steps, and the victor declared that all dharmas are without things. When the Muni who teaches all dharmas, the Buddha, becomes the king of Dharma, from the trees, mountains, and rocks, the sound "All dharmas are without things" also arose. As many sounds as there were in that world, they all said that all things are without things. In this way, the sound that guides the world appeared in various ways. At that time, a king had a son, whose name was always called Compassionate Mind. He was very handsome and pleasing to look at. He came near to that victor, prostrated at the feet of the supreme Muni, and then circumambulated with reverence. In order to hear the stainless, unsurpassed Dharma, he sat there with great joy. That victorious hero, after thinking, then spoke of this samadhi. After hearing this stainless samadhi, he quickly renounced in the teachings of that victor. After renouncing, he held, recited, and completely understood this samadhi, and therefore, for twenty kotis of kalpas, he did not fall into the lower realms. With that virtuous action he performed, he pleased twenty million Buddhas. Also, in the presence of all those victors, he heard this peaceful and supreme samadhi.
