Fifth, the chapter of Light Protector. Fifth, the chapter of Light Protector. Volume Three. At that time, the venerable Ananda, leaning against the bed of the Blessed One, wept, tears flowing and lamenting. Then, the venerable Ananda wept with tears streaming down, falling to the ground like a great tree being cut down and felled, (thinking) it is too fast that the Blessed One completely enters Nirvana! It is too fast that the Sugata completely enters Nirvana! It is too fast that the compassionate one will no longer reside! It is too fast that the precious sentient being will no longer reside! It is too fast that the great lamp will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the great lantern will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the supreme of the world will cease in the world! It is too fast that the precious sentient being, the white lotus-like sentient being, will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the sentient being with awareness, the tamed sentient being, the tamer of the untamed sentient beings will disappear from the world! It is too fast that the guide, the teacher, the one who shows the path of happiness will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the great eye, the one who shows the light of wisdom will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the parents of sentient beings will no longer appear in the world! It is too fast that the world will become blind! It is too fast that the Blessed One, the protector of the world, will no longer exist, and the complete guide will no longer be! Tomorrow morning, only the name will remain, but the precious sentient being will no longer be seen. Then, the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Ananda, saying: Ananda, stop, do not grieve, do not lament! Ananda, have I not said from the beginning that all that is beloved and unlovable will be separated, parted, decomposed, and disconnected? Ananda, whatever is born, produced, compounded, contemplated, arising dependently, is subject to decay. How could it not decay? It is impossible! It is impossible for things that have changed in this way to remain and not disappear.

Ananda, no matter how long one lives, one will inevitably become a being of the Dharma who will eventually enter complete Nirvana. Therefore, Ananda, do not grieve, do not lament. Then, the Venerable Ananda, without blinking his eyes, looked at the face of the Blessed One, and like a tree that has been cut down and falls, he also fell to the ground. The Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda twice: Ananda, stop, do not grieve, do not lament. Ananda, this matter is not easily obtained through grief and lamentation. I have said from the beginning that all things that are hateful and pleasing will become different and will be separated. All conditioned things, no matter how long they abide, are inevitably of the nature of change. Ananda, you have served the Tathagata with loving bodily actions that are beneficial, blissful, non-dual, immeasurable, without hatred, without rivalry, and with loving speech and loving mental actions, from bliss to without rivalry. Then, the Venerable Ananda rose from the ground, wiped away his tears, and said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, I will be separated from such a precious being. I, the great compassionate one, who transcends all worlds, желающий to benefit all worlds, full of love for all worlds, cherishing all worlds, the teacher of all worlds, the guide of all worlds, the giver of benefit and happiness to all worlds, if I am to be separated from such a great being tomorrow, why should I not grieve, why should I not lament? Then, the Venerable Ananda shed many tears, wiped away his tears, and again spoke these words: Alas, such a great lamp, a great lamp, a great light, will disappear from the world. The great sun of wisdom, surrounded by countless billions of rays, everywhere light, everywhere illuminating, everywhere shining, everywhere radiant, everywhere awakening, everywhere seeing, everywhere knowing, everywhere wise, everywhere mindful, everywhere acting, everywhere

The actions of the sentient being of light, the great illumination of wisdom, such as disappearing in this world, are false. They are to be condemned. Alas! The light of the world disappears too quickly. The protector of the world, together with the gods, disappears too quickly. Alas! The Bhagavan, together with the miracles, disappears too quickly in the world. Bhagavan, why should I not grieve? Bhagavan, why should I not lament? Bhagavan, it is very strange that my heart has not broken into a hundred pieces! It is very strange that I have not died before the Bhagavan! Bhagavan, I think that I have not died because of the blessings of the Bhagavan. What is the reason for that? Bhagavan, I have directly remembered eighty-four thousand aggregates of Dharma from the Bhagavan. I have completely understood them directly, and I have completely upheld them directly, but those have not yet benefited many beings, and have not yet spread in many directions, so Bhagavan, I think that I have not died, that is the power of the Bhagavan. Bhagavan, why should I not grieve? Bhagavan, why should I not lament? Bhagavan, I go to the place of Kapilavastu, to the place where the Bhagavan was born, and say to the assembled Shakyas: Shakyamuni, the king of the Shakyas, no longer appears in the world, shall I say that? Or what shall I say? Going to the city of Rajagriha, to King Ajatashatru, the son of Vaidehi, shall I say: The perfectly complete Buddha, the great sun among suns, has disappeared, the great king of medicine who extracts the thorns of uninterrupted karma has passed away? Or what shall I say? Going to the great city of Shravasti, shall I say that the one who has attained great compassion, who desires benefit, who has love for the world, has disappeared? Or what shall I say? To Anathapindika, shall I say: How will the Tathagata abide in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's garden? Or what shall I say? Going to the great city of Vaishali, before the assembly of the Licchavis...
