Just like that, the mind did not wander outward, and like holding a vessel filled with butter, looking just so far as the yoke, he entered for alms. Then, the people of Rajagriha were amazed when they saw me, and thought: "Is this Brahmā? Or Indra, the lord of the gods? Or is it the son of Vaiśravaṇa? Or is it some mountain deity?" They thought like this. To that, it should be said like this: Then, endowed with boundless glory and stainlessness, the Bodhisattva himself renounced the world, his mind is peaceful and his conduct is very subdued, he dwells on the face of the white king of mountains. When the Bodhisattva knew that dawn had arrived, he put on the most beautiful robes, took his alms bowl, and with a humble mind, entered the royal city for alms. He is very subdued like a golden Sal tree, adorned with the thirty-two marks, when seen by groups of men and women, no one is ever satisfied by looking. The streets are adorned with precious clothes and jewels, by whose power the whole city is beautiful. People ask each other, "Who is this being we have never seen before?" and follow after him. Thousands of women sit on the roofs of houses, likewise at the doors and likewise at the windows, the streets are filled and the houses are emptied, they look at the best of men without anything else. When they look at the form of the best of men, those who buy and sell do not trade, and those who are fond of alcohol do not drink it, and they do not like to stay in houses and streets. Someone quickly went to the royal palace and happily said to King Bimbisāra, "A Brahmā himself is practicing alms in this city, O god, you have found him, you have found the holy one!" Some say, "This is Indra, the king of gods." Others say, "This is the son of the No-Conflict God." Likewise, some say, "This is the joy and delight of Tuṣita." And others say, "This is the son of the greatly delightful god." Some say, "This is the sun and the moon, as well as Rāhu and the powerful weaver's garland." Some even say this: "This is the one who dwells on the white king of mountains." When the king heard these words, his mind was greatly pleased, and he sat at the window and saw the Bodhisattva, the best of beings, shining like refined gold.

King Endowed Heart said to that person: "After giving alms, go and see where he went." Having seen that he went to the top of the highest mountain, Some said, "He is on the mountainside." Endowed Heart, starting from the next morning, Surrounded by many people, Went to the gray mountain king, And saw the glory of that mountain shining exceedingly. Having dismounted from the vehicle, he went on foot, Unwavering like Mount Meru, Sitting in the lotus position on the grass mat, He saw the Bodhisattva with great reverence. The king bowed his head at his feet, And spoke various kinds of words, "I will give you half of all the kingdom, Enjoy these qualities of desire, do not wander." The Bodhisattva spoke gentle words: "Lord of the earth, may you live long! I have abandoned the painful kingdom, And have renounced for the sake of desireless peace." "Young man, you are in your prime, Your body is beautiful and full of strength, Take much wealth and many women, Stay here and enjoy my kingdom!" The King of Magadha said to the Bodhisattva: "I am very happy to see you, Be a friend to all my kingdom! I want to offer you my dominion, please enjoy it! Do not dwell in empty forests, Do not sit on the grass anymore, Your body is exceedingly young, Stay here and enjoy my kingdom!" The Bodhisattva, gentle and without deceit, Spoke joyful, beneficial, and loving words: "King, may you always be auspicious! I do not desire the qualities of desire. Desire is like poison, full of endless faults, Causing beings to fall into hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. The wise despise desire, desire does not ennoble, I have abandoned it like rotten snot. Desire falls like a fruit from a tree, It goes like clouds and rain, It goes like the wind, unstable and changing, Destroying and deceiving all virtues. Likewise, one suffers because one does not find desire, Even if one finds it, one will not be content. When it becomes uncontrolled and extreme, Desire creates great suffering. King!"
