Chapter Seventeen: Prophecy of the Tushita Devas Chapter Seventeen: Prophecy of the Tushita Devas Then, eighty kotis of Tushita devas, from the Asuras to the Arana devas, saw the offerings of those devas and heard the prophecies, thinking: Which of the dharmas prophesied by the Bhagavan for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment is form? Or is it feeling? Or is it perception? Or is it formation? Or is it consciousness that the Bhagavan prophesied for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment? Thinking thus, they thought: Form is not prophesied by the Bhagavan for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are not prophesied by the Bhagavan for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because form is unborn, and enlightenment is also unborn, how can the unborn cause the unborn to manifest perfect enlightenment? Feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness are also unborn, and enlightenment is also unborn, how can the unborn cause the unborn to manifest perfect enlightenment? Form is also without cessation, and enlightenment is also without cessation, even consciousness is without cessation, and enlightenment is also without cessation. Form is also without elaboration, and enlightenment is also without elaboration, even consciousness is without elaboration, and enlightenment is also without elaboration. Form is also without duality, and enlightenment is also without duality, even consciousness is without duality, and enlightenment is also without duality. Form is also without movement, and enlightenment is also without movement, even consciousness is without movement, and enlightenment is also without movement. Form is also without an object, and enlightenment is also without an object, even consciousness is without an object, and enlightenment is also without an object, how can the absence of cessation, the absence of elaboration, the absence of duality, the absence of movement, and the absence of an object cause the absence of cessation and the absence of an object to manifest perfect enlightenment? If all dharmas are thus unobtainable, then who is the Buddha in this? Bodhicitta
