English
There are also those who completely pass beyond sorrow in this way. For example, some Hearers, through miraculous power, manifestly rise into the sky and emit streams of water from their bodies, and those streams of water do not fall to the ground but solidify in the sky. Similarly, their own bodies do not fall from the sky but solidify into ashes. Sharadvatiputra, those Hearers completely pass beyond sorrow in such ways. Sharadvatiputra, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Akshobhya, when he was formerly practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva, made this aspiration: 'Alas! When I manifest and perfectly awaken to unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, may the Hearers in that Buddha-field completely pass beyond sorrow through these three kinds of miracles!' This is due to the distinction of the aspiration he made. Sharadvatiputra, among those immeasurable Hearers of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Akshobhya, those Hearers who have not obtained the four analytical knowledges are few, while those who have obtained the four analytical knowledges are very many. Those Hearers who have obtained the four legs of miraculous power are also very many. Sharadvatiputra, in the Buddha-field of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Akshobhya, the Hearers are endowed with a complete assembly of qualities. When he had spoken thus, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said this to the Blessed One: 'Venerable Blessed One, the Buddha-field of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Akshobhya, is like this, like this the great and complete array of the Hearer Sangha is wonderful!' When he had spoken thus, the Blessed One said this to the venerable Sharadvatiputra: 'Sharadvatiputra, it is so, it is so. It is just as you have said. Sharadvatiputra, the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened Buddha Akshobhya...'
