Twelfth Chapter, called "The Chapter on Truly Revealing the Names of the Buddhas." Twelfth Chapter, called "The Chapter on Truly Revealing the Names of the Buddhas." The Great Sutra called "The Buddha's Excellent Severance," which is vast and profound. Volume Fifteen. The Blessed One, having first attained perfect enlightenment, was dwelling at the Bodhi tree, the essence of the Dharma monastery of Magadha, with wisdom that was extremely pure, practicing correctly with non-duality, extremely devoted to the Dharma of no characteristics, having attained equality with all Buddhas through the conduct of the Buddhas, having realized and understood through the absence of obscurations, possessing the Dharma of non-retrogression, with conduct and realm unseized, inconceivable liberation, extremely appearing in the equality of the three times, dwelling in the palace of all lights, upon a lion throne with a lotus heart. Bodhisattvas, as numerous as the fine dust of ten Buddha-fields, all gathered from other world realms, bound by a single lifetime. Examining the realm of sentient beings, examining the realm of Dharma, examining the world, examining the realm of Nirvana, examining the ripening of karma, examining the continuum of thought, examining meaning and letters, examining the worldly and the transcendent, examining conditioned phenomena and, unconditioned phenomena, examining the past, future, and present, all with a single method. Then, those Bodhisattvas thought thus: "The Blessed One, with a compassionate heart, cares for us. As the Bodhisattvas think and intend, it would be good to fully reveal the Buddha-field, or to fully reveal the conduct of the Buddhas, or to fully reveal the adornment of the Buddha-field, or to fully reveal the Dharma-nature of the Buddhas, or to fully reveal the purity of the Buddha-field, or to fully reveal the teaching of the Buddhas, or to fully reveal the self-nature of the Buddha-field, or to fully reveal the power of the Buddhas, or to fully reveal the adornment of the Buddha-field, or to fully reveal the Bodhi of the Buddhas. Or fully explain the ten joys of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten conducts of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten immeasurables of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the treasures of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten grounds of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the aspirations of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten samadhis of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten transformations of a Bodhisattva, or fully explain the ten heads of a Bodhisattva, so that all Bodhisattvas may truly appear, not cutting off the lineage of the Tathagata, saving all sentient beings, making all realms free from afflictions, in order to fully understand all conditioned phenomena, in order to truly proclaim all dharmas, in order to completely purify all defilements, in order to completely cut off all doubts, in order to thoroughly destroy all cowardice, in order to completely destroy all places.
