The Sutra of Turning the Wheel of Dharma. The Sutra of Turning the Wheel of Dharma. In Sanskrit: Dharma Cakra Pravartana Sutra. In Tibetan: The Sutra of Turning the Wheel of Dharma. Homage to the noble Three Jewels with reverence. Thus I have heard, at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Deer Park at Ṛṣipatana (the place where sages fell) in the country of Vārāṇasī. Then, the Blessed One summoned the five monks and spoke: Monks, those who have gone forth should not abide in these two extremes. Those who are attached to desires and pleasures are irrational and inferior. Ordinary people are connected with meaningless things, so those sufferings of fatigue and separation from the body should not be praised, they are all connected with meaningless things. Monks, these are the extremes of the two extremes, and one should not engage in them. The Tathāgata, having attained complete enlightenment, spoke of this Middle Way. It produces vision, it produces knowledge, it produces peace, it produces direct knowledge, it produces perfect understanding, and it leads to Nirvana. Monks, what is the Middle Way that the Tathāgata spoke of after attaining complete enlightenment? It produces vision, it produces knowledge, it produces peace, it produces direct knowledge, it produces perfect understanding, and it leads to Nirvana. The Middle Way is the Noble Eightfold Path, these eight are: Right View, Right Thought, Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, Right Mindfulness, and Right Concentration. This Middle Way was also spoken by the Tathāgata after attaining complete enlightenment. It produces vision, it produces knowledge, it produces peace, it produces direct knowledge, it produces perfect understanding, and it leads to Nirvana. Furthermore, monks, this is the Noble Truth of Suffering: the suffering of birth, the suffering of aging, the suffering of sickness, the suffering of death, the suffering of meeting with the unpleasant, the suffering of separation from the pleasant, the

Not getting what I want is also suffering. In short, the five aggregates of grasping are suffering. Furthermore, monks, this is the noble truth of the origin of suffering, which is craving that leads to rebirth, accompanied by delight and attachment, finding pleasure here and there, namely, craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, and craving for non-existence. Furthermore, monks, this is the noble truth of the cessation of suffering, which is the complete abandonment of that very craving, its renunciation, rejection, detachment, and non-attachment. Furthermore, monks, this is the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering, which is the Noble Eightfold Path, namely: right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. Monks, this is the noble truth of suffering, in which, for the first time, when the Dharma had not been heard before, the eye arose, knowledge arose, wisdom arose, understanding arose, and light arose. This is also the noble truth of suffering, monks, which should be fully understood. For the first time, when the Dharma had not been heard before, the eye arose, knowledge arose, wisdom arose, understanding arose, and light arose. This is the noble truth of the origin of suffering, monks, in which, for the first time, when the Dharma had not been heard before, the eye arose, knowledge arose, wisdom arose, understanding arose, and light arose. This is also the noble truth of the origin of suffering, which should be completely abandoned.
