And if they follow those changes, seeing and hearing, they will not train in suchness, they will not accomplish suchness, they will not do yoga in suchness. Those who do not train in suchness in that way, do not accomplish suchness, do not do yoga in suchness, will cause afflictions to increase. Those who have such a reversed mind-stream, whatever actions of body, speech, and mind they do, all of those will become undesirable, unlovely, unpleasant, and unsuitable. Thus, those great hells of sentient beings will not be destroyed. The birth-place of animals, the realm of pretas, the assembly of asuras, and the places of demons will not be destroyed. Ananda, seeing this power of meaning, the evil demon will be pleased, delighted, joyful, satisfied, and happy. Ananda, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva fights with a person of the Hearer Vehicle, argues, quarrels, scolds and punishes, harbors malice and generates anger, then the evil demon thinks to himself, 'Alas, this son of good family will distance himself from omniscience, and will remain very far from omniscience.' If someone is a person of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, and fights with another person of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, argues, quarrels, scolds and punishes, harbors malice and generates anger, then the evil demon will be very pleased, delighted, joyful, satisfied, and happy, and he will think to himself, 'Both of these Bodhisattvas will remain far from omniscience.' Ananda, furthermore, if an unpredicted Bodhisattva Mahasattva fights with a predicted Bodhisattva Mahasattva, argues, quarrels, scolds and punishes, harbors malice and generates anger, and harms his mind, then that Bodhisattva Mahasattva, if he has not abandoned omniscience,

Those who generate the mind of enlightenment must wear armor for such eons. After speaking thus, the wise Ananda said to the Blessed One: "Venerable One, do those who generate the mind of enlightenment have a slight certainty of liberation? Or must the Bodhisattva Mahasattva wear armor without abandoning it for such eons?" The Blessed One said: "Ananda, I have taught the Dharma of certain liberation and antidotes to individuals of the Hearer Vehicle, individuals of the Solitary Realizer Vehicle, and individuals of the Bodhisattva Vehicle. Ananda, among them, if there is an individual of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who fights and disputes with an individual of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, thereby rebuking, insulting, slandering, harboring harm, arousing hatred, not mutually confessing, not upholding discipline afterwards, bearing grudges in their hearts, and dwelling with resentment. Ananda, I do not say that such an individual has certain liberation. Ananda, such an individual must wear armor without abandoning it for such eons thereafter. Ananda, again, if there is an individual of the Bodhisattva Vehicle who fights and disputes with an individual of the Bodhisattva Vehicle, thereby rebuking, insulting, slandering, harboring harm, arousing hatred, mutually confessing, and after mutually confessing, also generates such a mind of upholding discipline: How shall I cut off the disputes of all sentient beings and extinguish the disputes of all sentient beings? If I personally dispute, if there is speech, and I speak again, it is obtaining a bad gain, obtaining bad and not obtaining good. How shall I become a bridge for all sentient beings? I think not to respond to others with harsh words, not to retaliate with harsh words. I should not speak at all, in fighting, disputes, and debates, I should be like a fool, a deaf person, and a mute person. Even if I hear others speaking ill, slandering, and saying bad words, I should not harbor malice in front of others. If I know the faults and shortcomings of others, this is not good for me, it is not my share. I should not speak of the faults and shortcomings of others."

Thinking, "I should listen," I think that is not what I should do. Why? Because I should not disturb the superior intention. In any case, I should manifest complete enlightenment in the unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment, and make all sentient beings happy with all the means of happiness, and liberate them from complete nirvana. Did I generate the mind of enlightenment, or when I and others quarrel, do I truly want to harm others? Have I become disturbed? This is not what I should do. I should suppress others with steadfast patience, and even when facing life-threatening dangers, I should not become disturbed, nor should I show an angry expression on my face. I think that is the definitive departure of the bodhisattva mahasattva, O Kungawo. O Kungawo, the bodhisattva mahasattva should abide in this way even in the presence of the hearers. Just as one does not become disturbed in the presence of any sentient being, one should abide in the presence of all sentient beings. O Kungawo, how should the bodhisattva mahasattva abide in the presence of other individuals who possess the bodhisattva vehicle? O Kungawo, just as one treats the teacher, the bodhisattva mahasattva should abide in this way: "These bodhisattva mahasattvas are my teachers." These bodhisattva mahasattvas have entered the same vehicle as me. These bodhisattva mahasattvas have entered the same path as me. These bodhisattva mahasattvas have the same intention as me. These bodhisattva mahasattvas are perfectly in accordance with the same vehicle as me, and I should also learn what they should learn. How they should learn, I should also learn in the same way. If some of them abide in familiarity, I should never abide in familiarity. If all of them abide unfamiliarly with a mind endowed with wisdom, I should also learn in the same way.
