Understood. Feeling, perception, formations, and considering consciousness where there is no consciousness, and there being no purity between conditioned and unconditioned dharmas, and those whose minds are defiled by reversed thoughts due to conceptualizing non-existent things, manifestly performing actions of body, speech, and mind, they will not be completely liberated from the cycle of the five realms. Therefore, Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, having gathered all virtuous dharmas in the Perfection of Wisdom, practice and engage in the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Engaging in this, they awaken to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Having awakened to perfect Buddhahood, they also liberate sentient beings from the cycle of the five realms. After this was spoken, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, if all dharmas are empty of their own nature, Blessed One, then how does a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, completely liberate sentient beings from the cycle of the five realms? After this was said, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, here, a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, having awakened to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, shows sentient beings the four noble truths, namely suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path leading to the cessation of suffering. They explain, teach, establish, and place them. In those four noble truths, all virtuous dharmas, the aspects of enlightenment, are gathered. Through those dharmas of the aspects of enlightenment, the Three Jewels are also established. What are the three? They are the Buddha Jewel, the Dharma Jewel, and the Sangha Jewel. When these Three Jewels arise, sentient beings will be completely liberated from the cycle of the five realms. Then, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed

Venerable One, is it by knowing suffering that beings will be completely liberated from suffering? Or is it by suffering itself that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Is it by knowing the origin of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Or is it by the origin of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Is it by knowing the cessation of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Or is it by the cessation of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Is it by knowing the path leading to the cessation of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Or is it by the path leading to the cessation of suffering that they will be completely liberated from suffering? Having thus inquired, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: Subhuti, neither by knowing suffering will one be completely liberated from suffering, nor by suffering itself. Neither by knowing the origin of suffering, nor by the origin of suffering itself. Neither by knowing the cessation of suffering, nor by the cessation of suffering itself. Neither by knowing the path leading to the cessation of suffering will one be completely liberated from suffering, nor by the path leading to the cessation of suffering itself. Subhuti, it is by the equality of the noble truths that one will be completely liberated from suffering. Thus I say. Neither by knowing suffering will one be completely liberated from suffering, nor by suffering itself. Neither by knowing the origin of suffering, nor by the origin of suffering itself. Neither by knowing the cessation of suffering, nor by the cessation of suffering itself. Neither by knowing the path leading to the cessation of suffering, nor by the path leading to the cessation of suffering itself. Having thus spoken, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what is the equality of the four noble truths? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, that in which there is neither suffering, nor the knowledge of suffering; neither origin, nor the knowledge of origin; neither cessation, nor the knowledge of cessation; neither path, nor the knowledge of the

Also, there is nothing. Subhuti, also, the suchness of those four noble truths, the unconfused suchness, the non-different suchness, the dharma-nature, the faultless nature of dharma, the abiding nature of dharma, whether the Tathagatas appear or not, they abide in the realm of dharma. Thus, the realm of dharma is the nature of dharma without forgetting, and it becomes the nature of dharma that is completely undiminished. Therefore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, in any case, he practices to realize the truth for the sake of realizing the truth. Having spoken thus, the venerable Subhuti said to the Blessed One: "Lord, how does a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom, practicing for the sake of realizing the truth? How does one practice to realize the truth? After realizing it, how does one accomplish it in suchness? How does one accomplish it so as not to fall into the Hearer's ground, nor fall into the Solitary Buddha's ground, but enter into the faultless state of a Bodhisattva?" Having spoken thus, the Blessed One said to the venerable Subhuti: "Subhuti, a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva does not see the dharma that has no end. When he does not see it, no dharma is perceived. Because it is not perceived, all dharmas are seen as empty. Whether they are dharmas that have realized the truth or have not realized the truth, all are seen as empty. Seeing thus, he enters the faultless state of a Bodhisattva and abides in the lineage ground. After the Bodhisattva abides in the lineage ground, he will not fall into the peak fall, and there will be no peak fall that would cause him to fall into the Hearer's ground or the Solitary Buddha's ground. After the Bodhisattva abides in that lineage ground, he generates the four dhyanas. He generates the four immeasurables and the four formless absorptions. He abides in that ground of tranquility and fully distinguishes all dharmas.
