Suchness, Dharma-nature, the realm of Dharma, the abiding nature of Dharma, the faultless nature of Dharma, the ultimate reality—whether the Tathāgatas appear or not, the realm of suchness, the Dharma-realm, remains undiminished and unchanged. Therefore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, they practice for the sake of realizing the truth, just as one should realize the truth. Subhūti asked: "Lord, how should a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva practice the Perfection of Wisdom in order to practice for the sake of realizing the truth? How should they practice to realize and seek the truth, so that after realizing it, they do not fall into the level of a Śrāvaka or a Pratyekabuddha, and enter without any faults of a Bodhisattva?" The Lord replied: "Subhūti, here, when a Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, they should see those Dharmas in such a way that no Dharma is an object of focus. Because they do not focus on any Dharma, they see all Dharmas, whether realized or unrealized, as empty. Having seen in this way, the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva who has realized without fault will abide in the lineage ground. Once that Bodhisattva abides in the lineage ground, they will not fall. Therefore, they will not have the fall of falling into the level of a Śrāvaka or a Pratyekabuddha. They abide in that lineage ground of a Bodhisattva and cultivate the four Dhyānas. They cultivate the four immeasurables and the four formless absorptions. They abide in that with higher vision and thoroughly know all Dharmas, thereby realizing the four noble truths. They fully know suffering, but do not generate a mind focused on suffering. They completely abandon origination, but do not generate a mind focused on origination. They realize cessation, but do not generate a mind focused on cessation. They cultivate the path, but do not generate a mind focused on the path. Otherwise, how can one truly understand all Dharmas with a mind inclined towards enlightenment?

One sees it as it is. The question: O Blessed One, what is meant by 'the suchness of all dharmas'? The Blessed One said: It is emptiness. The question: What is emptiness? The Blessed One said: Emptiness is the emptiness of inherent existence. With such higher vision, one sees all dharmas as empty. Where does the essence abide, in order to manifestly and completely awaken to enlightenment? Such an essence, one does not see that any dharma has an essence. The absence of things is enlightenment, and that is not made by the Buddhas, not made by the Pratyekabuddhas, not made by the Arhats, the Non-returners, the Once-returners, the Stream-enterers, and not made by those who have entered those paths. Even those Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas who practice this enlightenment have not made it. Otherwise, beings would not know or see the suchness. Therefore, Bodhisattva-Mahasattvas practice the Perfection of Wisdom and skillfully teach the Dharma to beings.
