Then, they carried those things and left. They carried those burdens, and those merchants saw the group of six monks carrying loads of wool coming from behind and said, 'Venerables, we were thinking of hiring some people to carry things.' Thinking, 'You should carry all this wool away,' they requested to hire the venerables. Those misers said, 'Are we your servants?' Although the venerables didn't say anything, they laughed. In that group, there were some heretics walking along, and they said, 'Oh, group of six monks, where will you unload your burdens? Where will you be able to gain profit? Rip open your mother's belly, unload your burdens there, and you will be able to gain profit there.' The group of six monks said, 'Joyful ones and those close to joy, if we walk with the group, we will encounter many troubles, let's go to the front of the group.' Having said that, they went to the front of the group. At a certain cliff, in order to catch thieves, many fierce people were arranged to wait there, and they saw those monks from afar. Having seen them, they became afraid and said, 'Knowledgeable ones, an army with elephants has come.' All those people by the cliff were frightened and fled into the forest. Some of them said, 'These are not an army with elephants, but some drummers are coming.' Some said, 'These are not drummers, but some elephants.' Some said, 'These are not elephants, but some people carrying burdens.' As they got closer, those fierce people again said, 'Venerables, because you are carrying such burdens, all the people by the cliff were frightened and fled into the forest.' Those misers said, 'If the thieves know that you have frightened them, even in broad daylight, they will tie you up and take you into the forest.' The joyful ones and those close to joy said, 'If we walk on the main road, we will encounter many troubles, let's take a side road.' Having said that, they went onto a side road. Those who run gambling businesses, in order to wait for the merchants who gamble, arranged many people who run gambling businesses to wait there, that

Some people saw them and said: "Hey, why are these merchants breaking the threshold to leave? Are you beggars our companions who break the threshold? Who are you?" "We are the venerable group of six." "Go away!" They said: "Dear ones, if we enter through the gate of the Victory Garden, we will be hit by the black bowls, so we must enter through the small gate." When they entered through the small gate, an old woman saw them and said: "Hey, why are these porters breaking the village to enter? Old woman, are we your porters?" She said: "Who are you?" "We are the venerable group of six." "Venerable ones, welcome, welcome!" After they entered, they dismantled their loads of wool, and they remained as a great heap resembling Mount Meru. The monks said to them: "Venerable ones, do you not get hit when you carry such heavy loads?" "Venerable ones, do we only publicly quarrel for the sake of eating? Whoever hits us, we will give back double." Monks, why do you, who are content with little, always fill yourselves with the very limbs with which you should be ashamed? They began to scold, throw things, and say unpleasant things. The monks told the Blessed One about this matter. Then, the Blessed One, because of this event, this origin, this occasion, convened the monastic community of monks, and so on, as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly commit offenses, and so on, also as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the group of six, saying: "Monks, is it true that you have done such an unseemly thing?" "Venerable One, it is true." The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked them, saying: "This is not the conduct of a renunciant, it is not in accordance, it is not proper, it is not in accordance with the rules, it is not to be done by one who has gone forth." Then, the Blessed One in various ways

After thus rebuking them, the Buddha said to the monks: "Therefore, monks, seeing the ten benefits as they truly are, the training ground for the disciples should be established in the Vinaya," and so on, as before. My disciples should recite the training ground of the Vinaya as follows: If a monk finds sheep's wool on the road, if he wishes to take it, that monk should take it. Having taken it, if he does not carry it, he should honor it himself up to the boundary of three ক্রোশ (krośa). If he carries it beyond that, it is an expiatory offense. The term 'monk' refers to the group of six monks or any other such person. 'On the road' means on the road to the monastery. 'Sheep's wool' means the wool of sheep. 'Finding' means from another place. 'If he wishes' means if he really needs it. 'That monk should take it' means he should accept it. 'Having taken it, if he does not carry it' means if he does not make an allowance. 'Up to the boundary of three ক্রোশ (krośa)' means up to the boundary of three ক্রোশ (krośa). 'Honoring it himself' means honoring it himself personally. 'If he carries it beyond that' means if he carries it beyond that. 'Expiatory offense' means that after abandoning that object, he should confess the offense of expiation, therefore it is said to be an expiatory offense. If so, how does it become an offense? If a monk finds sheep's wool, if he does not carry it, and he himself carries it beyond the boundary of three ক্রোশ (krośa), when he reaches half a yojana, it becomes a misdeed, and when he reaches the boundary of one yojana, it becomes an expiatory offense. Even if there is carrying, if he carries it himself, only at the time of starting does it become a misdeed, and when he reaches half a yojana, it becomes another misdeed, and when he reaches the boundary of one yojana, it becomes an expiatory offense. Six ultimate atoms make one subtle atom. Six subtle atoms make one water atom. Six water atoms make one dust atom. Six dust atoms make one rabbit hair atom. Six rabbit hair atoms make one louse atom. Six louse atoms make one nit atom. Six nit atoms make one ox hair atom. Six ox hair atoms make one sunbeam atom.
