The wife of that household said to that household: Son of the king, please listen! The noble Near-Joy is our virtuous friend, the noble Near-Joy separates us from defilements, makes us take refuge, and arranges for us to learn the precepts. He also often teaches us with the Dharma, so we should also offer him food. Good woman, do so! What to do? Each of us should offer him a large piece of cloth. The daughter heard this and thought: I will deceive the noble Near-Joy and make him happy. Near-Joy also put on his lower garment in the morning, took his bowl and robe, and went to Shravasti to beg for alms, gradually begging for alms and entering that household. The daughter cleaned the house well, threw away the broom, and seeing Near-Joy, prostrated at his feet and said: I will deceive the noble Near-Joy and make him happy. This household and the wife of this household will each offer you a large piece of cloth. Near-Joy thought: How many greedy people are there on earth, they are all like me, and now this daughter is also deceiving me.
