Seventh, showing the reason for abandoning begging. Seventh, showing the reason for abandoning begging. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Anathapindika's grove in Jeta's park in Shravasti. Nika had the following thought: "All of these are bound by the precepts established by the householder Anathapindika, so they cannot beg for even the price of mending from anywhere. In this way, the Bhagavan has relaxed the precepts based on the forty monks in the town, so I should first send those forty monks in the town to obtain gains." Thinking this, he went to the place where those forty monks in the town were. When he saw those forty monks in the town mending their tattered clothes, he said to them: "Venerable ones, I have heard from others and seen with my own eyes that I thought those forty monks in the town were experiencing the bliss of meditation, liberation, samadhi, and equanimity, but I do not think that you venerable ones would be mending such tattered clothes. Venerable ones, we have been robbed by thieves. Alas, how terrible! How terrible! Venerable ones, for whom are you grieving? Is it for ourselves? No, it is for those thieves who robbed you, because they will be born naked and die naked, so we grieve for them. Venerable ones, why don't you beg for clothes? Venerable ones, who would abandon the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha and think of giving to us? Venerable ones, hasn't the Bhagavan praised, honored, praised, and highly praised in various sutras?" Venerable ones, we don't even know whom to beg from. Venerable ones, why don't you entrust it to some learned monks who can beg for clothes for you? Venerable ones, which learned monk would completely destroy his own virtuous deeds and go (to help) us?

For this reason, they will go to beg for clothes. Venerable ones, for the time being, there is a way for me myself and ten people. Furthermore, each of us six people is also myself and ten people, so there is a way for us sixty people. Furthermore, if it does not harm you, we will also beg for small pieces of cloth and large pieces of cloth for the sake of the young people. What harm is there to us for that abbot? For the time being, each person can beg for three Dharma robes. Venerable ones, we cannot go from house to house, nor can we beg for clothes. Like this, whoever is invited to eat outside, beg at that time. Then, Nanda washed his feet outside the monastery and entered the monastery and sat down, thinking: What method can I use to make everyone in Shravasti know? Then he thought again: First, only go to the streets of the poor, and then walk in the streets of the rich. Then, the palace of King Prasenajit who appeared in the country of Kosala, and the house of Queen Jati Summer Flower, the house of Queen Flower Garland, and the house of the householder Anathapindika, the wise sage Devasena, the houses of the two old and new families, and the house of the weaving workshop of the female lay devotee Mari-dhrt, the house of the female lay devotee, the wife of the householder, Good Birth. At that time, a householder invited the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, to another house to receive offerings, and Nanda said to the young people: Venerable ones, if you have things to be sent to do, you should say without harm: We have some things to do for the Khenpo and the disciplinarians. The next day, Nanda sent a young man to the forty monks in the town, saying: Go and beg for Dharma robes, and come back quickly. When the young man went there, when he saw those people were in Samadhi, he thought: Who with a heart without compassion, who has abandoned the next life, will wake these people from Samadhi? Then he went to Nanda and said.

Sapa. Those teachers were in a state of meditative absorption, so no one could rouse them from that samadhi. Nede said, 'Greedy one, will you manifest the exhaustion of defilements with such diligence?' Nede himself went and struck the door of the pavilion with his heel. The entire pavilion shook, and they arose from that samadhi and said, 'Venerable ones, forty monks are to beg for the three Dharma robes. Are you seated smaller than the heart? Come, let's go!' The venerable Jesoshi abandoned his wooden staff and went. 'Come, unload right at the crossroads!' Those noble ones and Nede said, 'Venerable ones, we six groups are like white crows, so we should not sit like rats, but rather the elders should sit in turn.' Those people went to the slum and sat arrogantly. Those people saw them and became frightened, saying, 'Noble ones, has some fault not occurred?' Virtuous ones, a fault has occurred. Have you heard of the forty monks of the chain of villages whom the Blessed One praised, honored, extolled, and greatly extolled in the various sutras? We have heard. Those people were robbed by thieves. Those people said, 'Knowledgeable ones, bring bows and arrows! Bring shields and clubs! Let's go to catch the thieves!' The six groups said, 'Those people were robbed a long time ago, and they have already robbed in other places.' What should we do? Give them clothes!' Those people gave them new and old clothes. Those people found the clothes too heavy, so they entrusted them to the young men, saying, 'Today, take these to the temple!' The young men took those clothes and went to the temple. Those people went to the rich area and sat arrogantly. Those people became frightened and said, 'Noble ones, has some fault not occurred?' A fault has occurred. Have you heard of the forty monks of the chain of villages whom the Blessed One praised, honored, in the various sutras?
