The Sangha grants permission to a monk, for whichever monk's house foundation, grants permission to build a suitable, undisputed foundation, then he should be allowed to build the house, and there should be no regret about this. The phrase "the monks who lead" means those monks who are led there. The term "foundation" refers to what the foundation is in relation to the house. The term "suitable" means being free from snake dwellings and scorpion dwellings, etc. The term "undisputed" means being free from fighting and fault-finding, etc. The term "buildable" means that there is no fault within a fathom's distance around it. The term "should be examined" means to examine separately. If a monk says the foundation is unsuitable, it refers to the greatness of snake and scorpion dwellings, etc. The term "disputed" means being with fighting, with fault-finding, with disputes, and with quarrels. The term "unbuildable" means that there is no fathom's distance around it. Am I building what I have erected, without an owner, for myself? For the sake of seeing the foundation, are monks not led? Are the monks who are led not shown the foundation? The term "exceeding the measure" means building beyond the measure that has been stated. The term "Sanghavasesa" means the same as before, therefore it is said "Sanghavasesa." So, how does the offense occur? If a monk has a house built and has it built unsuitably, he commits a gross offense. If he has it built with disputes, he commits a gross offense. If he has it built unbuildable, he commits a gross offense. If he has it built without instruction, he commits a gross offense. If he has it built exceeding the measure, he commits a gross offense. If he has it built exceeding everything, he commits a Sanghavasesa offense. A monk goes to a monk and says this: For my sake, please have a suitable, undisputed, buildable, instructed, and measured house built. If he therefore has a house built and has it built unsuitably, he commits a gross offense. Has it built with dispu
