With names such as Bodhisattva Supreme, Bodhisattva Virtuous Friend, Bodhisattva Perfectly Pure Eyes, Bodhisattva King of Mountains, Bodhisattva Great Protector, Bodhisattva Wheel-Turning King, Bodhisattva Immaculate, Bodhisattva Harmony, these eight petitioned the Bhagavan. "We shall speak and request the essence of the mantra heard from the past Buddhas, the Bhagavat, please bestow your blessings." Ākani, Nikani, Āpīla, Mandhale, Mandhale Svāhā. If there is any deviation or transgression from the Bhagavan's teachings and this secret mantra, the head will split into seven pieces, and the limbs of the body will rot. Furthermore, the Unobstructed Bodhisattva petitioned the Bhagavan thus: "How is this letter called 'Manifestation Eight'?" The Bhagavan replied: "'Manifestation' means direct perception, and 'eight' means differentiation. The Great Vehicle Sutra is the basis for action, appearing and knowing, because one cause of consciousness knows everything, therefore there are letters and Dharma, which are called the letters of the Eight Manifestations. The eye is the knower of form, the ear is the knower of sound, the nose is the knower of smell, the tongue is the knower of taste, the body is the knower of touch, and the mind is the knower of differentiation. The first six know and are related, without difference, and are the eighth with the Alaya consciousness. The root and substance of the eight consciousnesses are empty and peaceful. If one focuses on them, then the eye's knower is the Manifestation Bodhisattva, the ear's knower is the Sound Bodhisattva, the nose is the Bodhisattva who distinguishes various smells, the tongue is the Bodhisattva who discerns tastes, and the body is the Vairochana who distinguishes between soft and rough. Vairochana is supreme, pure Vairochana, mirror-like Vairochana, light Vairochana, and the mind knows truly without wavering. The mind is the realm of differentiated objects. The Alaya consciousness is the great liberation of wisdom, Buddha...

This is the Dharma of conduct. Its name is the Treasury of Emptiness. If someone wishes to build a house or move into a new house and desires auspiciousness, reciting the "Eight Lights Sutra" three times will bring auspiciousness. Writing, reciting, or chanting the "Eight Lights Sutra" will result in possessing immeasurable accumulations of merit. When this Dharma Sutra was taught, monks, nuns, male lay practitioners, female lay practitioners, and sixty-six thousand people all obtained the flawless Dharani. The earth also shook in six ways. Countless gods, nagas, asuras, garudas, kinnaras, mahoragas, yakshas, humans, and non-humans, etc., all obtained the pure Dharma eye. They practiced the conduct of Bodhisattvas. Eighty-one thousand ordinary beings attained the fruit of Arhatship. After the Bhagavan spoke thus, all the supreme Bodhisattvas and others rejoiced and praised what the Bhagavan had said. The "Noble Eight Lights Sutra," a Mahayana Sutra, is complete.
