Thus have I heard: Once, the Blessed One was dwelling in the forest of Ṛṣipatana at Vārāṇasī, together with a great Saṅgha of five hundred fully ordained monks. Then, the Blessed One addressed the monks, and those monks listened to the Blessed One. The Blessed One spoke thus: Monks, I have realized the profound Dharma, difficult to see, difficult to realize, extremely subtle, skillfully examined, and to be understood by the wise. I have turned the wheel of Dharma for the benefit of many beings, for the happiness of many beings, with love for the world, for the sake of the great multitude of beings, and for the benefit and happiness of gods and humans. I must definitely strive to turn the unobstructed wheel of Dharma. Said to Ananda: Ananda, I will show you the basis for collecting the essence of all Dharmas. Therefore, you will hear the Dharmas you have not heard. You will retain the Dharmas you have heard. The five detailed classifications of words are as follows: the detailed classification of words of action, similarly, the detailed classification of words of Dharmas not heard, the detailed classification of supreme words, the detailed classification of letters examining from ground to ground, and the detailed classification of definite words and various symbols. These are endowed with glorious and stable word-knowledge mantras, all the yakshas, rakshasas, kumbhandas, and flesh-eaters of the four continents' world who come to Jambudvipa will bestow upon that person various kinds of food and medicine. Furthermore, the words of secret mantras originate from the Dharma, do not harm others, are spoken by the Tathagata, praised by gods, nagas, yakshas, and gandharvas, and the complete mastery shown is these.
