Though ripening for oneself is certain, One doesn't know it, and even knowing, acts recklessly. Knowing it and still eating poison is the same. May I be free from sin and downfall, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who don't know the nature of sin! Virtuous deeds are needed, but doers are few. In these degenerate times, virtue is mixed with sin. For the virtuous deeds of body and speech without sin, May I have the strength of diligence, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who are like glue-tongued liars! The suffering of the three lower realms, Even hearing of it brings fear and dread, If one were to see it, wouldn't one's heart bleed? Now, even a spark of fire burns, What would it be like to be burned by a great fire On a constantly scorching iron ground? May I understand cause and effect in detail, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who are terribly sinful! Now, one night of cold is bearable, But to be frozen in a glacier for billions of years, And to suffer with a hundred thousand wounds, what would that be like? May I master the Dharma, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who are reckless and hasty! Now, one day of hunger is bearable, But for thousands of years without food or drink, And without the power to drink even a drop of water, What will those who crave delicious food do? May I have the ability to accumulate merit, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who steal, rob, and plunder! Looking up, the happiness of gods and humans in the higher realms, Is like delicious food mixed with poison, Briefly pleasant, but harmful in the long run. May I turn away from attachment To food, wealth, and fame in this life, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who seek gain through the eight worldly concerns! May all those connected to me, Be guided to the Western Pure Land of Sukhavati. May I obtain a miraculously born body, Lama, know! Look with compassion on those who wander in endless samsara!
