Strike it on the crown of the head. Do not do it inside the monastery. Then, accompanied by drums and music, recite "gods, nagas, yakshas," etc. The effigies are carried away by obstacles. For those who do not leave, visualize that the retinue of the wrathful deities of the teacher are involuntarily expelling them, and then light the butter lamp in the mouth. Sprinkle the vase water of the Vajravidāraṇa (rnam 'joms) ritual and lead the way. First, the white torma, male fire offering, rice offering, roasted barley flour dough, mouth burning, red torma, black silk. The self-accomplishing practitioner and the reciters of profound instructions are arranged in order. Go to a clean place, arrange everything in order, leaving a little behind. Accompanied by drums and music, recite "Hum," recite the Three Jewels, etc., and offer the white torma, etc., in order. Then, pick up the mouth burning, and accompanied by drums and music, throw the long mantra of nectar swirling like a repelling weapon, with the mouth facing outward or downward being good. If the mouth faces inward, it is bad, it is said to be lying face up. Observing the head looking left and right, if lying face up looking inward, it is bad for both men and women. Lying face up with the mouth looking inward is bad for the teacher. If the head looks inward, it is said to be very bad, but do not throw it inside the monastery, but place it with the mouth facing outward. Sometimes, if the offering attendant wants to complete it, but in reality it should be thrown by the teacher. Then, recite any of the repelling words such as Vajra Dance Repelling Mother, and offer the red torma. Then, accompanied by the repelling of the Lion-faced Dakini such as Glorious Vajra, the monks clap their hands to exorcise demons by the Amida ritual reciter. Then, even if the monastery does not have this tradition, it is good to consecrate all the vessels and perform the horse dance. Then, roll up the black silk, and it is very important for the teacher to press down on it without looking back, and after returning home, follow the subsequent rituals of Shakyamuni Buddha and Vajravidāraṇa. Then, the monastery, as an offering, hopes to have a good feast gathering, hehe. Both the mouth burning and the male fire offering effigies have their eyes gouged out. Prepare many teeth, mouths, and children. The tongue is coral. The skull is a pair of pearls. The right hand has about three or four golden apples. The left hand has two cans of silver. The clothes are black silk brocade, just enough to connect, the reciter is Rinbar or a black silk face cover. The male fire offering's clothes are silk or one side of silk brocade. Offer a good auspicious khatag to each Buddha statue. The materials for applying eyebrows and mustaches are a pair of gold foils. Black silk clothes

In Lhasa, monks would take turns sticking needles into a person named Phowa, each sticking more than a hundred needles. The splendid silk clothes were taken away by the offering attendants. Those who considered themselves clever, knowing where there was gold, silver, and pearls, would search around. Even if such silk, gold, and pearls were not obtained, just food would be enough. Since the ritual regulations for the form of Kha-barma (a protective deity) are not clear in the scriptures, in places like Chok Monastery, it seems that the offering attendants do whatever they please. Sometimes it's the form of a beautiful woman, and sometimes it's the form of an angry woman, changing as they please, although all the monasteries do it that way. However, in the detailed praises and histories of Kha-barma, it is said that the form of the angry woman is not ugly, so it is better to do as mentioned above. The so-called "Phowa" refers to those rude people. What the scriptures call "thumb-sized" refers to the ting-lo (a small drum), and "linga" refers to a small trumpet. Although water and milk are explained separately, mixing them together is sufficient. Some people say that this is the custom of Gandenpa (a monastery), putting soil from a plowed field, various grains, butter, and water into an earthen vase, and putting tea worth two sangs into a container. Kha-barma (the protective deity) is presented in the form of a beautiful woman, with a piece of dung placed on the vase, and when offering, it seems that the tea master takes one portion. They say that the vase is a treasure, and the one sitting on it is in the form of a yaksha treasure guardian, but this is a cause for laughter. Some people have heard that they make a hundred ransom offerings and offer them to Kha-barma (the protective deity), which is very frightening. This goddess Kha-barma is Palden Lhamo (Glorious Goddess) herself. This ritual, apart from being a special feature of the tantric section, is the same in essence as the hundred goddesses. Moreover, this especially belongs to the Action Tantra, so cleanliness is very important. All the monks cover their faces with masks, because if they do not maintain cleanliness, diseases will definitely occur in the monasteries. If a plague occurs, those who do not perform the Kha-barma ritual will say it is because of uncleanness and blame each other. All the ransom offerings are placed separately. Even if only one recitation of the hundred ransom tormas is done, if there are few ransom offerings, placing them around the Phowa is sufficient. As mentioned above, the bathing water for purifying all evil destinies and two-thirds of the retinue of the Buddha are poured into a copper vessel and offered in front of or outside of Kha-barma (the protective deity).
