Preparation for the Outer, Inner, and Secret Practices of the Co-emergent Vajrayogini Preparation for the Outer, Inner, and Secret Practices of the Co-emergent Vajrayogini Preparation for the Outer, Inner, and Secret Practices of the Co-emergent Vajrayogini. Homage. Namo Vajravarahiye. Homage to the Bhagavan Vajrayogini, the Co-emergent Mother. For the preparation of the outer, inner, and secret practices: First, one must have received the empowerment and lineage well, and possess the vows. Accumulate the necessary substances months in advance. The best is in the year of the Dragon, in the month of the Dragon, on the day of the Dragon, at the hour of the Dragon. A mirror hammered by a blacksmith born in the year of the Dragon, either a high-rimmed mirror or one the size of a finger joint, but not smaller. Take it directly from the blacksmith's hand, without it passing through another's hand. A virgin girl, undefiled by worldly dharmas, possessing all the marks of a Dakini, should wear it on her body for three or seven days. After that, without it passing through another's hand, cleanse it yourself. If that is not possible, then use a clean mirror with large eye-holes. Have a clean girl wear it on her body for a short time, and then cleanse it yourself. Find as many original nectar pills, new or old, as possible. Vermillion, red sandalwood, and as much cinnabar as possible. The menstrual blood of a clean girl. The dried, pure blood of a human, horse, and dog. The five precious substances. Find as much golden Aru as possible. The five grains, the five colored silks, and a full piece of red silk. Saffron. A golden writing pen. If you can find the five meats and pure nectar, cleanse them. The excrement and urine should be like father and son. If you cannot find white and red bodhicitta, use stalactites and rock sugar. The five meats should be from animals that did not die due to sin or terrible disease, and are not rotten. A thangka. A damaru. A vajra bell. A thighbone trumpet. A headdress. A copper or clay vase, preferably one that can hold seven handfuls of water. Even a small one should hold seven handfuls. A tethering rope with vajra ornaments. Seven red threads spun by a clean girl. Non-sacrificial meat and other offerings. Then, the place of practice should preferably be a great place where Dakinis gather. A mountain peak or charnel ground that is free from harmful gods and demons, or even a charnel ground where four corpses have been placed. A solitary tree, or even a place where the shadow of that tree falls and there are no other trees. A solitary tree is said to be essential. A cave or a large, dark mountain cave.

Location: Perform the practice in a tent or a simple hut. A red rock facing west, or a red cave shaped like a crescent moon, facing west and untouched by ashes, is best. At worst, it can be done in one's own home. Time: Begin on the tenth day of any month. If you want to accumulate merit, do it on the waxing tenth; if you want to purify obscurations, do it on the waning tenth. Then, contemplate the fourteen root downfalls, and if you find that vows have been broken or weakened, request empowerment again from a qualified lama. If that is not possible, take self-initiation two or three times. Prepare for this by practicing the meditation and recitation of Vajrasattva. If you can also do a little bit of smoke offering and water torma, as well as make tsatsas, there will be no obstacles, which is very important. Then, if you know how to examine the ground and calculate auspiciousness, do it according to the usual methods. If you don't know, offer a white torma to the general earth deities and pray, saying, "Please lend me this land." After making this request, dig facing north for three months of spring, east for three months of summer, west for three months of autumn, and north for three months of winter. Build it in a square shape, piling up the south side, and measure the length, width, and height with the length of an arrow. If it is small, use the length of a palm. If you cannot build an earthen platform, make a square threshold by plastering it with mud and placing it on a table. On top of that, mix sand from the end of the kalpa, red and yellow cow dung, urine, the five products of a cow formed by wiping the eyes, nose, and saliva with clay, and mix in as much soil as you can find from the great sacred places. After it dries, apply the five scents, the menstrual blood of a clean woman, the blood of a human, horse, and dog, and finely ground red sandalwood powder mixed with alcohol, and spread it in a palm-sized circle. Draw a picture of the pig mandala on top of it. Even if the blessing of the lines and colors is not explained, since "ཧཱིཧ་རི་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Hīḥa ri, meaning 'earth')" refers to the earth, visualize it as the five classes of dakinis. It is even better to visualize it as melting lines and colors. Mix a little red sandalwood and cinnabar into the paint. If you don't have paint, place a mandala painted on cloth, that is, a pig mandala, on the earthen platform or threshold. It is best to smear some substances on the back of the earthen platform or the statue. If you cannot find a thangka, it is not a failure; on any available platform, spread silk or cloth or red clothing.
