A Summary of the General Meaning of the Purifying Tantra. A Summary of the General Meaning of the Purifying Tantra. A Summary of the General Meaning of the Purifying Tantra. Herein lies the essence. Buddha Sarvavid Namaye. Here, I will briefly explain the general meaning of the Purifying Tantra. That is, the precious tantra classes must be explained through the five perfections. The place perfection is the abode of the thirty-three gods at the summit of Mount Meru. In the four directions of the Victorious Mansion, there are four great gardens. In the northern direction, the gods play and rejoice, hence it is called the Joyful Garden. In that place, this tantra was spoken. The time perfection is when the son of the gods, Immaculate Jewel, passed away from the thirty-three and was spoken seven days later. The teacher perfection is that the first chapter of this tantra was spoken by the incarnate Shakyamuni Buddha. The tenth of the eleven mandalas in the second chapter was spoken by peaceful Vajrapani. These eleven mandalas were spoken by peaceful Vajrapani transforming into the wrathful Conqueror of the Three Realms, hence it is considered that there are three teachers. The retinue perfection is the billions of Bodhisattvas and the eight classes of gods and demons. The Dharma perfection is the king of tantras that purifies all the lower realms, with two chapters, three volumes, and a thousand shlokas. The questioner was Indra, and the purpose was for the son of the gods, Immaculate, to be liberated from the lower realms at that time, and later for all limitless sentient beings to be liberated from the lower realms. The subject matter of this tantra is the twelve sand mandalas that are directly shown, and incidentally the twelve painted mandalas, the four homas of pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and wrathful, the seventeen cremation grounds including the Hum pit, and the nine or seven doors for purifying sins, self-benefit and other-benefit, etc., are the subject matter. Among them, the seven doors for purifying sins are: empowerment, repulsion, fire offering, cremation offering, tsatsa, recitation, and relying on a nameplate when there is no support, these seven. The main one is empowerment, benefiting others is more important than benefiting oneself, and the deceased is more important than the living. If someone says that the yoga of these tantras is not clear, therefore it is an action tantra, even though everything has been consumed and everything has been done.

Since the sutra says "it will be accomplished" and everything will be accomplished as desired, it is certain that it belongs to the Yoga Tantra. Within the Yoga Tantra, there are root tantras, explanatory tantras, and complementary tantras. Here, some consider it a complementary tantra, but in reality, it is derived from the third part of the condensed root tantra, specifically from the section on "subjugating the evil destinies of the three realms' victorious ones." Therefore, it is a derived tantra. At the end of this tantra, there is a fierce fire offering that blazes like fire. Because the previous kings and ministers needed to manifest their powers through mantras, it was said that it should not be translated, and therefore it was not translated. It is said that the Khotanese Chinese version contains the fierce fire offering. The way this tantra spread in India is that Vajrapani gave it to King Rabsel Dawa, who gave it to Rahula, Sati Pala, Prajnasiddhi, and Yeshe Dorje. Kunga Nyingpo heard it from all four of them, and compiled the root tantra, writing a commentary on it, as well as creating the Vajradhatu mandala ritual, the Vajra Arising, and the Kunrig sadhana. Therefore, he was known as Kunga Nyingpo, who was skilled in both words and meaning. Shakya Yeshe Nyen, who was skilled in words, wrote a commentary on the compiled root tantra called the "Kosala Tantra," and considered the four Vairochana images to be back-to-back. Sangye Sangwa, who was skilled in meaning, that is, he himself, took notes on his words, and there is a commentary called the "Purification Tantra Commentary: Old Commentary." These three were known as the three who were skilled in yoga. The lineage spread from them to India. In Tibet, in the time of King Trisong's grandfather Aktsom, Sangye Sangwa was invited to Mount Kailash, but he did not come. Trisong Detsen invited Vimalamitra, a disciple of Sangye Sangwa, and asked him about some yoga. In particular, Acharya Dharmakirti, a disciple of Shakya Yeshe Nyen, came to Tibet and taught yoga to the king, which made the king have faith. Therefore, he built the Kunrig offering image in the son's place, Serkhong Dorje Ying, and in Samye Utsé, and made the four Vairochana images back-to-back. At that time, the yoga tradition was mainly based on the Shakya Yeshe Nyen lineage, so the Vairochana images were made back-to-back, while the empowerment lineage of the Sangye Sangwa tradition was slightly passed down from Vimala.
