The Story of Tulku Mingyur Dorje's Previous Life as Prince Dondrup The Story of Tulku Mingyur Dorje's Previous Life as Prince Dondrup ༄༅། །The Story of Tulku Mingyur Dorje's Previous Life as Prince Dondrup. In the past, countless eons ago, there was an eon called "Good Conduct." There was a teaching of a Buddha named "Illuminating." In a city called Varanasi, there was a great king named Carriage, and his parents were Kunga Sangmo. I became Prince Dondrup. I loved giving and was very diligent. I had great compassion and possessed the vows of discipline. Then the prince said to his father, "I have no other goal than to achieve Buddhahood. You are a great Dharma king, please grant me wealth to give as alms. Please be my companion in practicing the supreme Dharma." He agreed to do so. The prince built another house for giving alms. He gathered many people and gave alms. At that time, there was a small king who was in accordance with the Dharma. He said, "In a place called Varanasi, the prince is giving vast alms, and he is preparing to go there to make offerings." His minister brought a beggar with a severed hand. At that time, the heretical king Shikten also sent a beggar to receive alms. He did not like the Dharma and was very jealous. His servant promised to serve there for six years and then stayed there. Then he met the previous small king, prostrated at his feet, and said, "Alas, alas, we are fortunate. May the Dharma that fills the world remain for eons. Remembering your kindness, please hold us with compassion. You are the actual Buddha, please benefit beings." Saying this, he offered the offerings there. His minister sent a bald man with no hands to beg, and when he was about to give alms, the Dharma king said this: "Alas, protector of beings, compassionate one. I should not give alms, please give whatever else you wish. If you give alms, you will commit the sin of killing. If you give your hand as alms, we will be no different from being killed." Saying

The gathering offering of jewels was presented, and then the king also returned to his abode. After that, the previous beggar said this: About four months have passed, and the service has also been completed. The offering has been made, and I should leave now. The prince also said to him: Alas, you have been my servant and messenger. Enjoy whatever you desire. I have generated the mind of enlightenment without stinginess. Having said this, the Brahmin said: You have the jewel that fulfills all wishes, which the king rides on. You must give it away as alms, and then go and ask for it. The king then thought: This is an inexhaustible alms-giving, and there is a promise not to give it to others, so I cannot give it away. Thinking this, he said: I am very happy to receive requests for alms, but I have promised not to give it to the king. Other than that, I will give you whatever you want. Having said this, the Brahmin said: If you promise to give any alms that are desired, wouldn't it be breaking the vow not to give the jewel? If you don't break your father's vow, there will be no sin. If you don't give up what you cherish most, what kind of alms other than that will become alms? The king said: Then I will give you alms, but don't tell others. Having said this, he gave him the jewel. After that, the very beautiful minister heard this and said to his father: Alas, great king, rider of chariots, your son named Dondrup (Meaning Accomplished) has given the jewel that fulfills all wishes to others. Therefore, what is more appropriate than killing him? After reporting this, the great king said: I have a son who is in accordance with the Dharma. No matter what he does, I cannot even frown slightly. Having said this, he reported to his mother, Kunga Sangmo, who said: Even if he is a prince, he must be punished if he commits a crime. If he is not punished, the kingdom will be lost. Report it like that. In this way, the very beautiful minister reported to the father king, saying: If the eldest son is deposed, who will inherit the throne? Therefore, marry a queen, and from then on, do not give alms casually, but accumulate wealth. Having reported this to the mother, without the jewel, look at the signs.
