Since "what" includes suffering and the origin, even if one understands suffering and the origin through the Dharma and subsequent knowledge-acceptance, one does not abandon them at that time. Because these are the abandonment of the path of cessation and the path of the way, later, when one focuses on the uncontaminated Dharma and subsequent knowledge-acceptance of the path of cessation and the path of the way, one abandons them, so it is because one abandons the object that one abandons. Those three ways of abandoning are also the ways of abandoning the view to be abandoned of one's own continuum, but all the views to be abandoned of other continua are: "Whatever arises in it is not abandoned, that thing is endowed with it." As it is said, it is only by abandoning the two co-emergent aspects of the object-possessing self-continuum that one abandons. The fourth way of abandoning, the abandonment of meditation, is to divide the aspects of the afflictions of each ground into nine, and when the antidote of whatever is the great of the great, etc., or the small of the small path, etc., arises, that affliction will be exhausted and abandoned. Even if one understands the four truths as the object through the path of seeing, one does not abandon the abandonment of meditation (i.e., the truths have already been understood before), so it is not through understanding the object that one abandons. Even if one abandons the initial form, but because of the remaining stains of the object-possessing, as it is said, even if one abandons the object-possessing co-emergent and the first eight abandonments of meditation, one does not abandon the later object-possessing abandonment of meditation, so it is not because the object of focus is exhausted that one abandons. Even if one abandons the first eight objects of meditation to be abandoned, one does not abandon the later nine object-possessing, so it is not because one abandons the object that one abandons. (Thus, the abandonment of meditation is abandoned by the arising of its respective antidotes, and the abandonment of meditation of one's own continuum, the afflicted form and the non-afflicted form, and all of other continua are abandoned by the exhaustion of the object-possessing, so there are two ways of abandoning the abandonment of meditation.) Secondly, then, does the antidote itself exist? There are four types of antidotes: the antidote of abandonment, the basis antidote, the antidote of prolongation, and the antidote of complete refutation. Among them, the first is what cuts off the attainment of afflictions, i.e., the uninterrupted path (all), such as the acceptance of the Dharma of suffering, etc. The second is the holding of the attainment of separation abandoned by the uninterrupted path, i.e., the path of liberation (all) such as the acceptance of the Dharma of suffering, etc., except for the first uninterrupted path.

Therefore, the first path of the immediate path is only the antidote of abandonment, not the basic antidote. The third is the special path up to the first path of liberation, except for the Dharma-knowledge of suffering, in order to prolong the attainment (of liberation). Therefore, the first path of liberation, the Dharma-knowledge of suffering, is only the basic antidote. Some say that the first path of liberation can also prolong the attainment (of liberation), so it is also the antidote of prolonging (attainment). The fourth is the path that focuses on the first two truths, through which the object it focuses on refutes the aspects of impermanence, etc. Therefore, it is said that the antidote of abandonment, etc., which focuses on the first two truths, is also the antidote of refutation, thus it is explained. The teacher, through the method of a ladder, keeps in mind that the order of arising and the nature are not confused. The first is only the heat of the path of application that focuses on the first two truths. The second is all eighty-nine immediate paths. The third is all the paths of liberation, the path of liberation is only the basis from the beginning, not the antidote of prolonging (attainment). The fourth is the special path, that is, all the paths other than the previous three. Therefore, this order is a good teaching, thus it is said. From what do these antidotes remove? From the refutation of the object of focus, it is considered that afflictions can be abandoned, not from the similarity and correspondence (of the antidote and what is to be abandoned). Because (if they are similar and corresponding), if the two do not exist mutually, they will not arise, because when they arise, they cannot distinguish their own category, and they can be distinguished from the object of focus. To what extent can it be said that afflictions have been abandoned? (At the time of the path, because there is no gross manifestation in one's own continuum, it is said to be abandoned. The path that can prevent, abandons afflictions of the past and future as the object of focus. Moreover, it is also abandoned by knowing the reality of that object, if the reality of some objects is not known, the power of the afflictions of that object in the continuum will also cause the attainment of afflictions that are not of that object. If that object is not refuted, that mind cannot be abandoned, thus it is said.) That is also in one's own continuum
