Explanation of Results. Explanation of Results. Secondly, the explanation of results is that for conditioned phenomena, there are four and a half types of results: the result of maturation, the result of similarity, the result of agency, and the result of increase. For unconditioned phenomena, there are the result of agency of attainment and the result of separation from defilements, as well as individual cessations through analysis, including non-cessations (divided into two halves). These are the results. As it says in the scriptures: What are the phenomena of results? They are all conditioned phenomena and cessations through individual analysis. Therefore, for unconditioned phenomena, the result becomes two and a half. (Space is devoid of action and is not something to be attained, and non-cessation is not a result because it is only attained when conditions are incomplete.) If that is the case, then cessation through analysis is unconditioned and is also a result, so its cause must also be stated. Since the unconditioned is considered a productive cause, its result must also be stated (if these exist, they would become conditioned). If asked, for the unconditioned (when considered as a result), the six types of causes that produce it, and (when considered as a cause) the five results that it produces, these do not exist, so they do not need to be stated. If asked, is it not a productive cause of separation from the path? No, because it does not hinder arising, and there is no arising for the unconditioned. Therefore, the unconditioned is the object of cause-and-effect analysis. Then, if the sutra says: If these five faculties are fully relied upon, habituated, and practiced many times, then suffering that has passed, will come, and is presently arising will be abandoned. This contradicts the above view, because abandoning suffering is cessation, and it is said that this is produced by the path. If asked, there too, it is because habituating the path hinders the future arising of afflictions, and it generates the wisdom of liberation free from afflictions, and it also manifests cessation through the power of the path, so it is said that way, but it is not newly generating cessation, because that would become conditioned. Then, what causes do these results come from? The result of maturation comes from the final cause of maturation. The result of agency (or dominance) comes from the initial productive cause.

The corresponding fruit is the fruit of the two causes of co-emergent cause and pervasive cause. (Just as a person acts, the assembly of causes and conditions is the same.) The fruit of a person's action is the fruit of the two causes of simultaneous arising and association. The reason for saying this is that these two causes do not necessarily have other fruits, and this is certain. Saying this does not mean that only these two have fruits. (These are based on the main aspects, and are not necessarily simultaneous, because all conditioned phenomena have both the agent and the object, and even if they arise, they are not simultaneous.) Because the acting cause and the co-emergent cause and the pervasive cause can also produce the fruit of a person's action. What are the characteristics of these fruits? The fruit of maturation is a non-obscured and unspecified dharma. Only these are also present in the external elements and the derived elements, so it is said to be a dharma included in the sentient being's continuum. (This is also because it is experienced by the agent.) If this is the case, then the growth of the senses and what arises from the corresponding cause are also included, so it is said to arise from good and non-good causes. (and). Only these are also present in the (arising of the senses) increased by samadhi and in the mind of emanation (the mind of emanation can immediately manifest and has different realms). To clarify this, it is said that good and non-good arise later (after the power of karma has matured). This is both the maturation of karma and the fruit, so it is the fruit of maturation. The corresponding fruit is similar to the cause (later arising). For contaminated dharmas, the nature, type, and realm are the same. (What arises from the pervasive cause is the same in realm and affliction, and what arises from the co-emergent cause is the same in type and appearance.) For uncontaminated dharmas, the nature is the same, as stated in the sutras. The separated fruit is by wisdom, that is, by the power of wisdom, eliminating the contaminated dharmas that should be abandoned, that is, the cessation established separately. The fruit that arises from the power of which cause is called the fruit produced by the action of a person, that is, obtaining the cessation of individual discrimination by the path.
