The Quintessential Instructions on the Three Essential Points, a Condensed Practice Manual of the Noble Avalokiteśvara's Teachings. The Quintessential Instructions on the Three Essential Points, a Condensed Practice Manual of the Noble Avalokiteśvara's Teachings. The Quintessential Instructions on the Three Essential Points, a Condensed Practice Manual of the Noble Avalokiteśvara's Teachings. Homage to Gurumanjughosha. Unifying the compassion of all Buddhas, widely known as Avalokiteśvara. I respectfully bow to his feet, and shall explain the three essential points. This refers to the instructions on how to practice in this life, at the time of death, and in the bardo, which were given by the Noble Avalokiteśvara to the great accomplished Mitra Joki, and are known as the Three Essential Points. The explanation is in three parts. The first part is: First, generate refuge and the four immeasurables. The main practice is to be undertaken as follows: Alas! This precious human body with leisure and opportunity, which is difficult to obtain and of great purpose, is certain to perish, and the time of death is uncertain. Without confidence about where one will be reborn after death, strive to ensure that you are not reborn in the lower realms. Wherever one is born in the six realms, one does not escape suffering. Therefore, for the sake of liberating myself and all other beings from the ocean of suffering without distinction, may I quickly attain perfect enlightenment. Above one's own crown, visualize a stupa made of white crystal, possessing a thousand doors (spokes). Inside the vase, on top of a white lotus and moon, is the form of the Noble Avalokiteśvara, inseparable from one's own root guru. His body is white, with one face and four arms. The first two arms are folded at the heart, and the lower two hold a crystal rosary and a white lotus. He is adorned with silk and precious ornaments, exceedingly beautiful, and sits in the vajra posture within the thousand doors (spokes). The thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon reside there, all in the form of the five Buddha families. Twenty-five reside in each of the four directions of the center. Here, it appears to be the practice of Avalokiteśvara Khasarpani, but in essence, there is no difference. As it is said that it is easier to visualize the four-armed Avalokiteśvara when reciting the six-syllable mantra. Then, Visualize yourself as the four-armed Avalokiteśvara. In the center of your heart, visualize an upward-facing, thousand-petaled red lotus. On the moon above the lotus center, visualize Avalokiteśvara, inseparable from your own mind, about the size of a thumb. On the petals

Adorned with a thousand white lotuses on the crown, The lama at the crown of the head, the Jetsun at the heart. At the tip of the hair, the Lord of the Family, Amitabha. Those three doors are marked by the three vajras. At the heart, on a moon disc, the HRIH (Tibetan: ཧྲཱིཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ह्रीः, Sanskrit Romanization: hrīḥ, Literal Meaning: possess great compassion) syllable, surrounded, The six syllables are beautiful like a crystal rosary. From that, light radiates from the supreme place of self-nature, Inviting the Lama Avalokiteshvara, a thousand Buddhas, The Three Jewels, all the Victorious Ones with their sons, And the Dharma protectors, secret mantras, and vidyadharas. Inviting the samaya beings, each into their respective places, Becoming the embodiment of all refuges. Then, the method of performing the seven limbs is as follows: The source from which all desired siddhis arise, The root and lineage lamas and the yidam deities, The Great Compassionate One, the thousand Buddhas, and so forth, I prostrate to the sacred refuges. With all the clouds of offerings of samsara and nirvana, And offering my body, possessions, and virtuous accumulations. From beginningless time, whatever has been done by myself and others, All sins, downfalls, and faults, I confess individually. To the white virtues accumulated by all beings, noble and ordinary, With heartfelt joy, I rejoice. I request that the sacred wheel of Dharma be well turned, And that you do not pass into nirvana but remain forever. Whatever merit has been accumulated in the three times, All gathered together, I dedicate for the attainment of Buddhahood. Then, the supplication is: The force of wisdom and compassion of all the Victorious Ones, Gathered together, named Avalokiteshvara, The protector of the three realms, the compassionate one, I supplicate you as the incomparable sacred refuge. Beautiful with clear and complete marks and signs, Proclaiming the eighty-four thousand collections of Dharma, Seeing all that can be known without exception, I supplicate the thousand Buddhas of this fortunate eon. I supplicate Jetsun Avalokiteshvara, the embodiment of all lamas, I supplicate the thousand Buddhas of the fortunate eon, the embodiment of all the Victorious Ones, I supplicate the Three Jewels, yidams, heroes, and dakinis, I supplicate the ocean of Dharma protectors. I supplicate, Jama Avalokiteshvara! Bless me, Supreme Compassionate One! I pray that you protect me and all helpless beings, From the fearful places of the lower realms! From the terrors of this life, the bardo, From the great torments and sufferings, From the ocean of suffering of samsara, I pray that you lead me to the joyful Dharma seat of Tushita. Hoping for...
