Commentary on the Two Sutras, the Noble 'da' ka ye shes and the Eleven Perceptions Sutra. Commentary on the Two Sutras, the Noble 'da' ka ye shes and the Eleven Perceptions Sutra. Commentary on the Two Sutras, the Noble 'da' ka ye shes and the Eleven Perceptions Sutra is seated. Namo Manjushaghoshaya. With golden womb and blue neck, possessing a thousand eyes and lotus-white eyes, and a friend of the lotus, etc., all the proud and famous in the world also rely on the lotus feet on their crowns. Here, the teacher, the Great Compassionate One, spoke two texts on how to meditate on perceptions at the time of death to Bodhisattvas and monks. They are the Noble 'da' ka ye shes and the Eleven Perceptions Sutra. The first is mainly for Bodhisattvas, but others should also practice it. Thus, I have heard that at one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the palace of the King of Akanishta Heaven, teaching the Dharma to all the retinue, which is the introduction. The time is said by some to be when the Blessed One went to the abode of the Thirty-Three Gods in order to establish the Great Mother Goddess in the truth. The Akanishta taught by this scripture is the last of the seventeen abodes of the form realm, or whether there is an Akanishta Dense Array above it, it is not clear here which of the two it is. However, according to one of the two great commentaries on this, the teacher is the complete enjoyment body and the retinue is a stream of Bodhisattvas, so it seems to be the latter. The other clearly states that it is the Akanishta Dense Array. The questioner is the Noble Akashagarbha. He asked the Blessed One as follows. What was asked and how: After calling the Blessed One, how should a Bodhisattva observe the mind at the time of death? Thus, he asked in summary. In response to the question, the Blessed One called Akashagarbha and said that when a Bodhisattva is about to die, he should meditate on 'da' ka ye shes, and after summarizing and teaching by name, he explained in detail with "What is 'da' ka ye shes?" etc. The Blessed One taught in verses.

Thus and so on, again summarizing the meaning and speaking. There are four meanings of the extensive explanation: Meditating on all dharmas as being empty of inherent existence; Even so, meditating on great compassion focused on all sentient beings; Meditating on non-attachment to desirable objects; Explaining that the wisdom of knowing the nature of the mind, the Buddha arises. First, since all dharmas are naturally pure, one should meditate on the perception of the absence of things. If the meaning of this is explained in detail, it seems necessary to establish the nature of the absence of inherent existence of the dharmas of the aggregates, etc., with the Madhyamaka scriptures and reasoning, but since this is a condensed explanation here, all the dharmas of the container and contents arise dependently and are named dependently, so if one searches for the meaning of the name, it cannot be found, and since it is established by its own nature, it is pure. Since it is pure in this way, one should cultivate the perception of realizing that all dharmas are devoid of things that are truly established, that is, wisdom. In short, this teaches that there is not even a particle of truly established dharma, and thus shows how to meditate on emptiness. That is, it is said that the dharmas that arise dependently, such as the mind, are empty of inherent existence from the very beginning. As it says in the Sutra Requested by Undroshpa: "Whatever arises from conditions is unborn. There is no nature of arising in it. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is mindful." And in the Entrance (to the Middle Way): "From the beginning, it is peaceful and free from birth, by its very nature." As it is said. Second, since all dharmas are included in the mind of enlightenment, one should cultivate the perception of great compassion. Although the dharmas such as the mind are devoid of inherent existence as previously explained, all the arrangements of actions and agents are reasonable in name. The Bodhisattva is a symbol of the time of death. The root of all the white dharmas of the Mahayana is included in the mind of enlightenment, which is led by compassion, that is, depending on this, generating that mind, and holding it with the view of realizing the absence of inherent existence, the perception of great compassion without focus, desiring to protect all sentient beings from all suffering, should be cultivated. This is to say that emptiness, the essence of compassion, should be cultivated.
