A Clear Explanation of the New Commentary on the Long Life Prayer for the Omniscient Incarnation A Clear Explanation of the New Commentary on the Long Life Prayer for the Omniscient Incarnation This is the treatise called "A Clear Explanation of the New Commentary on the Long Life Prayer for the Omniscient Incarnation." Even though enlightened as Buddhas since countless eons ago, In the presence of Buddhas such as Amitabha, Feigning the power of the ten bhumis, May the guide, Avalokiteśvara, protect me! Here, there are two parts to briefly explain the meaning of the new long life prayer for the incarnation of the Omniscient Lozang Rinchen Tsangyang Gyatso: the actual meaning and the analysis of it. The first part has three sections: supplication, long life, and aspiration. The first is the verse that begins with "Victorious Ones of the Three Times." The meaning of the words is: The Victorious Ones who have come and will come in the three times of past, future, and present, that is, the Buddhas who have conquered the enemy of afflictions, their wisdom that directly sees all dharmas, and their love that sees all sentient beings as their children, are all gathered into one, the noble Avalokiteśvara. In this degenerate age, in order to lead the unruly and difficult-to-tame beings of the degenerate age from the states of samsara and the lower realms, you play the form of a human being, that is, you show the manner of a human being. You are the ocean of the fortunate aeon for sentient beings to be tamed, that is, you have become the protector and companion of many fortunate beings. For that reason, I pray to you. This is the meaning of requesting with humility and respect, taking a lower position. The second, long life, is the verse that begins with "In former times." The meaning is: In the times of the past, you have gone well, rightly, or beautifully to a high position, therefore you are the Sugata, that is, in the presence of the Buddhas, you, the protector who saves sentient beings from samsara and the lower realms, just as you vowed in the past, with unwavering resolve, in order to accomplish the benefit of beings such as myself, please live for a hundred kalpas.

Praying in a manner that the lotus feet remain steadfast at all times, unshaken by any cause of disharmony. Third is the aspiration: reciting one verse of "Auspicious White Umbrella," etc. Although its meaning does not appear to be very easy to explain, it can be easily understood if the metaphor and the object of the metaphor are temporarily separated, and it should be done as follows: Born in a body endowed with good fortune, a noble being who is the cool shade of benefit and happiness for beings, like a white umbrella, you who have come from a high place, the second Victor, the best of holders of the teachings of the speech and realization of Lobsang Drakpa, therefore, one who plays in the form of a crest, like the crest of an umbrella. May the chief of such holders of the teachings raise the victory banner, or umbrella, of the Buddha's teachings in general, and especially the teachings of the venerable Tsongkhapa, to the far shore of the ocean, that is, to the edge of the ocean outside this great earth, that is, make it flourish, and may all sentient beings, including myself, be inseparable at all times and be taken care of by your compassion. If this method of explanation is examined in detail, it will be explained that there are errors. Second, examining the limits of it: The so-called Three Times Victor generally refers to the Buddhas of the past, future, and present, and although there are countless Buddhas if the Three Times Buddhas are separated. Nowadays, when the term Three Times Buddhas is used, it refers to the Buddha Dipamkara (past Buddha), our teacher (present Buddha), and the Buddha Maitreya (future Buddha). However, according to the way our teacher is called the present Buddha, Maitreya is the fifth Buddha after our teacher, so he is the future Buddha. Kashyapa Buddha is the third Buddha before our teacher, so it seems that he should be called the past Buddha. Dipamkara Buddha appeared before this kalpa and many kalpas have passed, as stated in the commentary of "Lamp Illuminating," and it is also mentioned in the "Answers to Black and White Calculation Questions." Therefore, the so-called Three Times Buddhas refers to Kashyapa Buddha, Shakyamuni Buddha, and Maitreya Buddha, which is appropriate. The meaning of uniting wisdom and compassion.
