The teacher Lodan, who is proficient in the Abhidharmakosha, resided in what was called Teacher Vasubandhu's Bhaga Vihara, inside a copper vessel filled with clarified butter. When he was reciting the eighty thousand sections of the Prajnaparamita, there was a pigeon that always listened. After a while, that pigeon died and was reborn as the son of a low-caste person named Trama in a remote area. As soon as he was born, he asked, \"Where is my teacher?\" When asked, \"Who is your teacher?\" he said, \"It is Vasubandhu.\" His father inquired with merchants who were going to the central region for business and heard that Vasubandhu was residing there. When the child had grown a little, he was taken to Teacher Vasubandhu. The teacher, starting from teaching him the alphabet, taught him to be proficient in all fields of knowledge. When he was young, in Nalanda, he offered the essence of beans to the Tara statue, thinking that she would eat them. He offered some, but the beans rolled away. He offered again, but the beans still rolled away. Thinking that it was not right for him to eat if the Holy Mother did not eat, he kept offering, but the beans always rolled away. The child cried. Then, the Holy Mother showed her true face and said, \"Do not cry. I will bless you, go home.\" From then on, his wisdom became unobstructed. That statue became known as the Bean Tara. It is said that this teacher was proficient in more than forty-nine chapters of the Ratnakuta Sutra and also wrote commentaries. At that time, his fame as a scholar spread everywhere. At that time, the benefactor of Teacher Yonten Wo, King Shri Harsha, asked Dharmakirti, \"Who is the most learned now?\" (Someone replied:) \"The wise one revered by the king, also the monk Yonten Wo, for the essence of all teachings, is the teacher Lodro Tenpa (Buddhi sthira).\" It is said that he said this. This teacher composed many treatises such as the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha called \"Sky Iron Thunderbolt,\" the commentary on the Abhidharmasamuccaya, and the commentary on the eight sections of the Prakaranapada. Some Tibetans say that after the ascetic Nyima's accomplishment burned the Dharma, Teacher Lodan recited the Ratnakuta from memory, (and said:) \"I placed my mind on one side and the minds of others on the other side.\"" } ] ============================================================

Two pieces of ghee; if measured on a scale, my mind of pride is heavier. Due to the power of this pride, he was born as a piglet, and judging by the grunting sound, he said: I am the wise Lodan of the past, due to the power of pride, I was born in the womb of a sow, and immediately after dying from here, I will go to Tushita. Thus it was proclaimed, but the timing is contradictory. Is it possible that someone prophesied to uphold the Buddha's teachings would not go to the lower realms due to the power of karma? His disciple was Gangwa Bel, and Gangwa Bel's disciples were Jinamitra and Shilen Dra Bodhi, etc., it is said, and should be examined. Dignāga's disciple, the noble Dignāga, who was wise in logic, was born into a Brahmin family and ordained by a Khenpo of the Mātrika sect. He studied grammar and other worldly treatises. He asked the Khenpo for the essential instructions on renunciation and meditation. The Khenpo said, "Meditate on the self that cannot be said to be the same as or different from the aggregates." He meditated, but could not find the self. He thought, "Am I obscured by inner and outer obscurations?" So he lit large butter lamps in four directions, bared his body, opened his eyes wide, and searched for the self in ten directions, but could not find it. At that time, a friend saw him acting in this way and told the Khenpo. The Khenpo asked, "Why are you doing this?" He replied, "I am searching for the self." The Khenpo said, "You are refuting your own tenets, go away!" Although the Khenpo could have refuted him with logic at that time, he thought it was inappropriate, so he gradually left and went to the teacher Vasubandhu, where he became proficient in the three vehicles, especially the Vijnanavada school and logic. Then, the teacher thought that the cause of suffering for beings is ignorance of the true meaning, so in order to abandon it and to generate the antidote of wisdom, he composed a commentary on the Abhidharmakośa, a commentary on the Praise of Infinite Qualities, and a hundred scattered treatises such as the Examination of Objects. Since those treatises had become scattered, he thought to compile them into one, and to compose a Compendium of Logic, so he wrote with chalk on the rock face of the cave called Dignāga's Cave: "Having become a valid cognizer, desiring to benefit beings, I prostrate to the Sugata, the protector, in order to establish logic, all my own treatises."
