The main thing is to do the following. So it is said. The second is the conduct of reverence, that is, reverence with the three doors of body, speech, and mind. In the Jataka it says: Sit on a very low cushion, fully generate the splendor of gentleness, look with joyful eyes, like drinking the nectar of words, generate with reverence and prostrate with one mind, with a very trusting and immaculate mind, like a patient listening to the doctor's instructions, generate respect and listen to the Dharma. So it is said. The third is to cultivate joy in the assembly of favorable conditions, in the Secret Inconceivable it says: The appearance of Buddhas in the world is a hundred paths, the human body is obtained with difficulty, alas! Faith and listening to the Dharma, such things are difficult to obtain even in a hundred kalpas. So it is said. In the Great Play it says: It is difficult to obtain the appearance of humans and Buddhas, faith is also extremely difficult to obtain, it is difficult to abandon the eight unfree states, listening to the Dharma is the main thing. The appearance of the Buddha and leisure, faith and listening to the holy Dharma, all these have now been obtained, so completely abandon all negligence. If for hundreds of thousands of trillions of kalpas, the life that will not hear the Dharma, you have obtained it today, so completely abandon all negligence. So it is said. In the Commentary on Reasoning it says: Speech and ears as well as, desire and wisdom without obstacles, these five are difficult to obtain, therefore one should listen to the teachings of the Able One. So it is said. Even if sentient beings die from here, will they still encounter the precious Dharma? No, having heard in the ears, who will preach the holy Dharma? No one knows these things, therefore you should strive to listen to the teachings of the Teacher. So it is said. If it exists, one obtains life without being eaten by demons, but even that will mostly be spent meaninglessly. Good speech also appears only a few times in the world, appearing like the Udumbara flower. So it is said. The second is, possessing the six perfections, that is, giving with the three doors of body, speech, and mind for the sake of the Dharma, guarding against evil deeds and abandoning the faults of the vessel, enduring harm and enjoying listening, focusing the mind on sound and meaning, obtaining superior insight, or the intermediate following the sound and upholding, guarding and contemplating the meaning. The lowest is immeasurable. The third is afterwards, asking for forgiveness of faults, dedicating the merit and giving thanks.
