A Rosary of Pearls: Instructions to Yönten Kyab A Rosary of Pearls: Instructions to Yönten Kyab The mind of all Buddhas of the three times, to the non-dual Lama, Is the source from which the near-attaining fruit arises. I prostrate, having abandoned base body, speech, and mind,\ewith the harvest of supreme and common siddhis ripening for beings. Father Sugata, precious Lama, the unbroken lineage of the command, the heart-essence, the precious essential instructions, with the blessings of body, speech, and mind, Bless all petitioners who place their hopes in me. That person called Yönten Kyab, seeing the Lama as the Buddha, the Sugata's command and the Lama's words, fulfilling the wishes of self and others, the profound instructions of introduction and advice, offering them to beings with love, Not diminishing your countenance, I write this rosary of pearls of inquiry and response. After the Sage attained complete enlightenment, though he taught the collection of Dharma, when asked what the antidote was to the eighty-four thousand afflictions, he replied: "What is to be abandoned, the means of abandoning, the antidote, and the antidote of knowing the nature." Twenty-one thousand arise from hatred, twenty-one thousand arise from desire, twenty-one thousand arise from delusion, twenty-one thousand are equal parts of the three poisons. The antidote to hatred is to meditate on love. Toward beings who are unpleasant and so forth, cherish them with love like a mother for her only child, and always meditate on mothers being happy. The antidote to desire is to meditate on unattractiveness. When seeing attractive objects, meditate on impure substances, skeletons, and corpses being dissected. The antidote to delusion is to meditate on emptiness. Even dependent arising, such as ignorance, is empty because it is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding. The antidote to equal parts of the three poisons is: whichever affliction is strongest, meditate on its antidote. Likewise, the antidote of knowing is: with the view of the unsurpassable Great Vehicle, the five poisons self-liberate as the five wisdoms, like reflections in a mirror. Hell of hatred is empty by itself. The mind of beings and one's own mind, the mind of the Buddha and one's own mind, without any difference, therefore, it is free from the object of arising pride. The quality of wanting to be great is equality itself. When the five senses become objects, by realizing everything without mixing them separately, one experiences great uncontaminated bliss. Desire attains the pāramitā. In the inner samādhi

Because of completeness, there are no obstacles to outer activities. Because of not hating glory and cherishing others, with the two Bodhicittas inseparable, jealousy and high-handedness naturally subside, and the work of benefiting others is accomplished. Because the nature of delusion is completely pure, experience the great clear light without appearance. It is not pervasive and not corporeal, without coming and going, and spontaneously accomplished. Like the sky, everything is empty. Furthermore, the appearances of various thoughts, and all phenomena such as afflictions, are each empty in their own way. Therefore, one should understand the antidote. The so-called "having complete karmic connections of oneself" refers to being accustomed to the habits of virtue. Wanting to benefit others refers to being seized by Bodhicitta. What fortunate ones see and hear, becoming vessels for profound Dharma, is because of karmic connections from beginningless time, awakening the karmic connections to the Dharma. Wanting to fulfill the Guru's intentions is achieved by following his teachings. Because it is not a report in this life, it is said to report the one true meaning. What is the true meaning? It is not apart from one's own mind. This stainless Dharmakaya of one's own mind has never been separated from beginningless time. Even if realized now, it is not newly born. It is seen through the Guru's kindness. It is realized by those with devotion. This innate awareness of the realized one, the ordinary wisdom not transformed by sectarianism, is oneself knowing one's own mind. The so-called protector of merit refers to yourself. This fresh awareness of the present moment, look nakedly at it as the Dharmakaya. The various appearances of white and red, do not accept or reject them, but let them go freely. The arising of various thoughts, understand that this is self-luminous wisdom. The objects appearing as external things, although not established as external realities, the appearances are the coagulation of habits. Once one recognizes one's own mind as the Dharmakaya, the habits will naturally dissipate. The moment without thought is the Guru who introduces the three Kayas. This unfabricated fresh awareness, without letting go or grasping, rest freely. If you think of meditating, that is fabrication. If meditation arises, that is grasping and being grasped. If there is a meditator, that is ego. If there is letting go and grasping, that is acceptance and rejection. If good and bad arise, that is the eight worldly concerns. For the primordial, innate awareness, saying it exists is exaggeration, saying it does not exist is slander. What does this primordial awareness, free from exaggeration and slander, refer to?
