Instructions to the Sakyas, the Great Brahmin, etc. Instructions to the Sakyas, the Great Brahmin, etc. Instructions to the Sakyas begin. Homage to the Guru. The Great Brahmin said: "Unfabricated, resting like fresh butter, is the Great Seal." Our Lama said: "The Great Seal refers to one's own mind." This is because of the meaning of non-duality, hence "Hand"; because of the meaning of non-transcendence, hence "Seal"; because there is nothing higher than it, hence "Great." The term "Hand" is like a person having two hands joined together in prayer. The mind is non-dual with appearance and emptiness. All phenomena of samsara and nirvana are the union of non-duality. Because one cannot transcend it, it is the "Seal." If one realizes the mind in this way, there is nothing greater than attaining Buddhahood, hence it is called "Great." Mind, awareness, heart, and wind, know their connection. "Mind" refers to the afflicted mind and the consciousness of mind. "Awareness" refers to the alaya-jnana, the mind of enlightenment, which is primordially pure and empty. "Mind and wind" refers to the mind riding the horse of wind, moving through the five sense gates. The consciousness of mind engages in grasping, giving rise to the three poisons of attachment, aversion, and ignorance. Therefore, it appears as the dharma of samsara. Wherever the mind is at peace, there the wind also becomes peaceful. Wherever the wind is at peace, there the mind also becomes peaceful. Therefore, when the mind is left unfabricated, the wind is contained within. When one realizes the state of alaya-jnana, the mind of enlightenment, as it is, the consciousness of the five senses and the consciousness of mind, as well as the afflicted mind, are not separate. They appear solely as the self-appearance of alaya. This is the dharma of transcendence of sorrow. I wish to accomplish the good of alaya, the transcendence of sorrow, separately. When thoughts arise of wanting to pacify or abandon conceptualization or the consciousness of mind, one is displeased when conceptualizations arise. When the mind abides, one feels joy. In any case, through the blessing of the Lama, one realizes that the momentary conceptualizations are not inherently existent but are empty. Therefore, the purity of alaya is not separate. The mind in which conceptualizations abide in emptiness abides as itself. The dharma of samsara, such as the consciousness of mind, is like that.

I don't need to abandon it; it is emptiness in itself. For example, when ice melts, it doesn't need water because the ice itself is water. Therefore, there is no need to realize the emptiness of pacifying thoughts. Understand that all phenomena of appearance and sound are just your own mind appearing as such, and nothing else appears. Realize that saying all phenomena are mind refers to this itself. However it appears, the mind itself appears as such. Therefore, understand that external objects do not exist separately. The saying that the object and the subject are non-dual refers to this. The statement that the object, like a vase, and the mind are inseparable should not be abandoned. If the object is not grasped by the mind, then the external object as an existent will not appear. Although it is said that appearance and mind are non-dual, however it appears, it is the mind that appears as such, and nothing else appears. If appearance is considered to be the mind, it would lead to the fault of becoming a substantialist school or a single self. Then, wouldn't there be the fault of the object and mind being different, or the external object existing as real? However it appears, this mind appears, and nothing else appears. If the eyes look at a pillar, and the mind meditates on it as a deity, the pillar will not appear. This mind also does not appear. If the mind were appearance, then this awareness would have to become an inanimate object, but it does not become an inanimate object. Therefore, there is no need to meditate on other Mahamudra or emptiness that is not your own mind. However it appears, the bliss that appears like the mind, know that to be spontaneously accomplished Mahamudra. There is no self-mind or object that is not Mahamudra. However it appears, the mind appears as such. That which appears as such, there is nothing that is not the mind Mahamudra. Now, because there is nothing that is not practice, I feel happy. Understanding it in this way, because there is no Mahamudra apart from this mind that abides as it is, great joy arises. Thinking that this is the kindness of the lama, I generate the perception of the lama as a Buddha. In the Mahamudra Doha it says: What is absorbed into the heart of what the lama has said, is like seeing the object in the palm of your hand. I thought that what was said was this. This mind has been appearing like this from the beginning, and if I didn't recognize this, it would be a pity, I thought. Thinking that the minds of all sentient beings also appear in this way, but they do not realize it, so they think that the mind appears in that way. Compassion arose spontaneously. My lama.
