Dedication Explanation. Dedication Explanation. Namo Guru. The precious Lama said, "Even if some roots of virtue are done, because one does not know how to dedicate, one wanders in samsara." Therefore, dedication is very important. If it is not grasped by dedication, there are many causes for exhaustion: anger towards a pure field will exhaust it; boasting or proclaiming to others will exhaust it; regret will exhaust it; not dedicating will exhaust it. For example, it is like throwing saliva ashes on a dry plain. Therefore, it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "The merit accumulated over a thousand eons, such as offerings to the Sugatas, and all virtuous deeds, are destroyed by a single act of anger." That's what it says. If dedicated, it will not be exhausted, for example, it is like throwing saliva into the outer ocean, the ocean will not dry up, and the saliva will not dry up. Likewise, if dedication is done, it will not be exhausted, but will increase. Therefore, it is also said: "Dedication is an inexhaustible path, accompanied by increase." That's what it says. Doing dedication is like hiding a great treasure that will not be exhausted. Until one attains unsurpassed enlightenment, the roots of virtue will not be exhausted, but will increase. Such dedication also has four aspects: the virtue to be dedicated, where to dedicate, the dedicator, how to dedicate, and how to dedicate in terms of method or means. First, the virtue to be dedicated, whichever of the six perfections it may be, must be grasped by the six excellences or the three excellences. The six excellences should be understood elsewhere. The three excellences are: the field excellence, the object excellence, and the intention excellence. There are also two types of fields: the upward support and the downward support. The most excellent of the upward supports is the Three Jewels, that is, offering to the Buddha Jewel and the Dharma Jewel does not have the merit of enjoyment, while offering to the Sangha Jewel has both merit and the merit of enjoyment, therefore the Sangha is a pure field. It is like having liberated and also showing the path of liberation, being very respectful of the precepts, being a virtuous excellent field, I prostrate to the Sangha. Also, the Buddha's teachings are a precious lamp, the burning vessel is an ascetic, holding the saffron robes, Shakya

O sons! Because they are monks. Thus it is said. The Sangha is a supreme field of merit. The objects of offering are: the poor and destitute, beggars, the hungry and distressed, the sick without protectors, and guests without friends, etc. Giving to them is a supreme field of merit. Among the followers of the Lesser Vehicle, the Khenpo, Acharya, and parents are pure fields of merit. It is also said that: Even if not a noble one, parents, the sick, and those who speak the Dharma, and the Bodhisattva who is in their last existence, their merits are immeasurable. Thus it is said. For the followers of the Great Vehicle, especially the Secret Mantra practitioners, the Lama is a particularly pure field of merit. In the glorious Chakrasamvara Tantra, it is said: Hundreds of thousands of commoners are equal to one pure Brahmin. Hundreds of thousands of Brahmins are equal to one who is without defilement. Hundreds of thousands of those without defilement are equal to one who possesses wisdom. Hundreds of thousands of those who possess wisdom should be known as equal to one Lama. Thus it is said. Furthermore, without grasping the root, one cannot cross the river of Samsara. Without a Lama who is endowed with all qualities, one cannot be liberated from Samsara. Thus it is said. Considering such a meaning, the venerable Acharya also said: Abandon all offerings, and begin by offering to the Lama. By pleasing him, one will surely attain the supreme state of omniscience. Thus it is said. Therefore, the saying "abandon all offerings" does not mean abandoning offerings altogether, but refers to the supreme field of merit. It is said that one should begin by making offerings to the Lama. If one thinks that the Lama is not so important, (know that) one can attain the supreme state of omniscience. Thus it is said. Attaining the state of a Buddha who knows all things depends on the Lama. So, what is the nature of the Lama? In the Secret Tantra of the Dakini, it is also said: Equal to the perfect Buddha, for the sake of arising that wisdom, therefore, is the Lama. Without the Lama, there is no supreme. For the sake of arising that wisdom, therefore, he is called the Lama. Thus it is said. It is said that the one who can point out the wisdom of one's own suchness is the Lama. That is the supreme field of merit. The supreme objects are: the substances for accumulating merit, not stolen from others, not robbed, not mixed with poison.
