Food mixed with sesame is Telikaṃ, or food mixed with sesame. Similarly, Goḷikaṃ, Ghātikaṃ. One who crosses by boat is Nāvika, or one who crosses by boat. Similarly, Oḷumpika. One who carries on the shoulder is Aṃsika, or one who carries on the shoulder. Similarly, Khandhika, Aṅgulika. By way of option, the suffix ṇika is used in other cases as well. One who dwells in Rājagaha is Rājagahika, or one who dwells in Rājagaha. One born in Rājagaha is Rājagahika, or one born in Rājagaha. Tam In the senses of 'studied', 'made by that', etc., 'being present in', 'appointed to', 'craft', 'goods', and 'livelihood'. 'He studies that', 'in the sense of made by that', 'being present in that', 'appointed to that', 'that is his craft', 'that is his goods', 'that is his livelihood' - in these senses, the suffix -ṇika occurs, or not. He studies the Vinaya, (he is) a Vinayika, or he studies the Vinaya. Thus, a Suttantika, an Abhidhammika, a Veyyākaraṇika. An action done by the body is bodily, or an action done by the body. Thus, verbal, mental. Feeling present in the body is bodily, or feeling present in the body. Thus, mental. Appointed at the door is a doorkeeper, or appointed at the door. Thus, a storekeeper, a citizen, a shipwright. The lute is his craft, (he is) a lutenist, or the lute is his craft. Thus, a drummer, a modiṅga-player, a flutist. Scent is his merchandise, (he is) a perfumer, or scent is his merchandise. Thus, an oil-seller, a sugar-seller. He lives by killing sheep, (he is) a sheep-butcher, or he lives by killing sheep. He lives by killing deer, (he is) a deer-hunter, or he lives by killing deer. Thus, a pig-butcher, a bird-catcher. By the inclusion of 'etc.', the suffix -ṇika should be applied elsewhere too. Struck by a net, (he is) a net-struck one, or struck by a net. Bound by a thread, (he is) a thread-bound one, or bound by a thread. The bow is his weapon, (he is) an archer, or the bow is his weapon. Thus, a javelin-thrower, a club-wielder, a mace-wielder. Wind is his ailment, (he is) a wind-sufferer, or wind is his ailment. Thus, a phlegm-sufferer, a bile-sufferer. Devoted to the Buddha, (he is) a Buddha-devotee, or devoted to the Buddha. Thus, a Dhamma-devotee, a Saṅgha-devotee. Belonging to the Buddha is Buddha's, or belonging to the Buddha. Thus, Dhamma's, Saṅgha's. Goods bought with cloth are cloth-bought, or goods bought with cloth. Thus, pot-bought, ploughshare-bought, grain-bought, gold-bought. A pot is its measure, (it is) pot-measured, or a pot is its measure. A heap of pots is a pot-heap, or a heap of pots. He deserves a pot, (he is) a pot-deserver, or he deserves a pot. He plays with dice, (he is) a dice-player, or he plays with dice. Thus. A man of the sala tree, a man of the tinduka tree, a man of the mango fruit. A man of the kapittha fruit, a man of the coconut, and so on. 352, 376. The 'ṇa' suffix is not for 'rāga' but for other meanings. The 'ṇa' suffix occurs, optionally, for 'rāga' in the sense of "dyed with that," and for "belonging to that" in other meanings. A cloth dyed with saffron is a saffron cloth, or a cloth dyed with saffron. Similarly, a kosumbha cloth, a turmeric cloth, a patanga cloth, a red cloth, a madder cloth, a saffron cloth. Meat belonging to a pig is pork, or meat belonging to a pig. Similarly, buffalo meat. A mansion situated not far from an udumbara tree is an odumbara mansion, or a mansion situated not far from an udumbara tree. A dwelling not far from a by-road is a vedisa dwelling, or a dwelling not far from a by-road. Born in Mathura is a Mathuran, or born in Mathura. Come from Mathura is a Mathuran, or come from Mathura. The month appointed for Kattika is Kattika, or the month appointed for Kattika. Similarly, Magasira, Phussa, Magha, Phagguna, Citta, Vesakha, Jettha, Asalha, Savana, Bhadda, Assayuja. There is no lengthening for blue, yellow, etc., in the 'saṇakāraka' suffixes. The 'pha' sound is for the word 'phussa', and 'siro' should be said for 'sirasa'. A group of learners is a 'sikkha', a group of monks is a 'bhikkha'. Similarly, a group of pigeons, a group of peacocks, a group of cuckoos. Buddha, his deity is Buddha. Similarly, Bhadda, Mara, Mahinda, Vessavana, Yama, Soma, Narayana. One who studies for a year is a 'saṃvaccharo'. Similarly, a mohutta, a nemitta, an angavijja, a veyyakaraṇa, a chanda, a bhassa, a canda. A region that is a sphere of influence for the Vasas is a Vasada. Similarly, a kumbha, a sakunta, an atisara. A place where udumbara trees are present is an odumbara place. Born from the oceans is an sagara. Sagala is his dwelling. Mathura is his dwelling, a Mathuran. Mathura is his lord, a Mathuran. And so on, these should be applied. 353, 378. For 'born' and so on, also 'imi' and 'iya'. The suffixes 'ima' and 'iya' occur in the meanings of 'born' and so on. Born later is the last. Similarly, the endmost, the middlemost, the foremost, the uppermost, the lowermost, the ankle.
