and that born of food, are generators. 748. Kamma generates forms, self-born, moment by moment; At the time of mind's arising, immediately after its arising. 749. They speak of thirteen kinds of form as born of season; Demarcation, non-separability, and the triad of lightness, etc. 750. Kamma-born forms arise at the juncture and in the continuity; The remaining forms arise in the continuity, but not at the juncture. 751. In the stream of sense-faculties, the three kinds of kamma, etc., generate forms in the dead, and externally, as appropriate. 752. Thus, kamma, etc., generate forms each according to its own; And for the remaining forms, there are also generative conditions. 753. Thus, the division of form, the distinction of its kinds, and its origin, and the distinctions of its generators, etc., are here explained. Here ends the discourse on the distinctions in the division of form. The Nineteenth Chapter. The Twentieth Chapter. 20. Discourse on Kalāpas 754. All forms, thus described, are grouped together; By the rule of co-arising, how are there twenty-one kinds? 755. Kamma, mind, season, and food, are the origins, in order; Nine, six, four, and two, are the twenty-one kalāpas. 756. Life and non-separable forms, in order, combined with eye, etc., are declared as eight decads. 757. Eye, ear, nose, tongue decads, are of four kinds; Body, female, male, base decads, are likewise others. 758. Life and non-separable forms are called nine; These nine are called kamma-born kalāpas, it is declared. 759. Non-separable forms, and then the pure octad; The body-intimation nonad, together with body-intimation. 760. The speech-intimation decad, due to co-arising with sound; The lightness-etc. eleven, due to co-arising of the three. 761. With body-intimation and lightness, etc., there is a duodecad; And with speech-intimation and lightness, etc., likewise a tredecad. 762. Thus, six kalāpas born of mind are declared; Including the modes and modifications of form, as appropriate. Section. 763. The pure octad is first, the sound nonad exists; the lightness-etc. hendecad, by the three lightness-etc. (groups). 764. By sound and lightness-etc., and also the duodecad; the kalāpas born of temperature, are declared to be fourfold. 765. And the pure octad first, and then the food-born (one); the lightness-etc. hendecad, these two are considered nutrient-born. 766. Because they are marks defining kalāpas, the wise ones; do not say they are parts of kalāpas, space and the characteristics. 767. There, eighty-nine, and sixty-three respectively; forty and nineteen, these are the parts of kalāpas. 768. The characteristic and space rūpas, in the kalāpas here and there; five and five rūpas, three hundred and sixteen (in total). 769. By taking what has not been taken, even twenty-eight kinds; by the name of rūpa-divisions, one should consider twenty-five. 770. The three elements are touchable, making the accumulation-continuity; or making one birth, without the heart-base there. 771. This indeed in the Dhammasaṅgaṇī, in the rūpa section, in its true nature; the base-rūpa is not specified, but it is taught in the Paṭṭhāna. 772. And two sound-nonads, and also three pure octads; two each born of mind and temperature, and one born of food. 773. Five of these are origin-based, and nine are kamma-born; according to the nature of rūpa, these kalāpas are declared to be fourteen. 774. Including them in the decads, the life-nonad there; or one gender-decad, thus making it without the base. 775. Sounds born of mind and temperature are two, their origins are three; and pure octads are seven, and kamma-born decads. 776. There, ninety-six kinds, the wise ones speak of rūpa; by taking what has not been taken, it would be eighteen kinds. 777. Of these very kalāpas, groups of seven, six, five; and groups of four, three, two, and single ones, as appropriate. 778. Two, seven, nine, six, three, and three also, respectively; four, thus thirty-four, are the co-existent aggregates. 779. They exist by way of eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and base; female and male gender-deca Lacking eye, ear, and nose, each two with their own nature; from non-existence, lacking being, thus, the six also, in seven ways. 781. Lacking eye and ear, lacking eye and nose, lacking ear and nose, their own nature, two, three, three. 782. Lacking one from eye and so on, in three ways, from non-existence; thus, the fives, by name, would be nines, as aggregates. 783. Indeed, lacking the three of eye and so on, from one, two, with their own nature; from the three of eye and so on, by two, three are lacking, from non-existence. 784. In the Rūpa-world, eye, ear, base, life-nines; indeed, four kalāpas, fours, six, as appropriate. 785. Due to tongue, body, base, non-existence, two, with their own nature; due to body, sex, base, thus, there are three threes. 786. One, due to body and base, and two, arisen from mind and temperature; sound-nine and eight-group, and pairs would be of three kinds. 787. And one life-nine, and those arising from them; indeed, three pure-eights, there would be four ones. 788. These thirty-four, at the junction and in the course of existence, of material-form kalāpas, are aggregates of arising. 789. And seventy, sixty, and so on, as appropriate, the forms of kalāpa-aggregates, should be understood here and there. 790. And also due to distinctions like sixteen, fifteen, and so on; by taking what is not yet taken, one should specify here and there. 791. One hundred and forty-four, kalāpas are aggregated; twenty-six forms there, and one thousand four hundred. 792. Thus, in the four woeful states, and in the seven happy sense-realms, and in the fifteen form-realms, in the non-percipient and woeful states. 793. Indeed, in the four divisions, and in twenty-seven kinds, in the birth-places of beings, at the junction and in the course of existence. 794. In the continuity bound by faculties, and also in that without faculties, in the continuity of external formations, and in a dead body, there is arising. 795. And the kalāpas that are obtained, and the aggregates of kalāpas, there, in detail and in brief, and also the counting of forms. 796. Indeed, the forms not mentioned here, according to what has been said, having expanded... to be known, and in every way by the wise. Thus ends the section on kalāpas in the division of matter. Twentieth Chapter. Twenty-first Chapter 21. On Origination 797. Twenty-eight kinds of matter, and twenty-one kalāpas; Having been stated thus far, their origination is now determined. 798. Egg-born, womb-born, moisture-born, and spontaneously arisen; Thus, by way of origination, four wombs are considered. 799. Among the gods, except earth-dwelling ones, among the hungry ghosts with burning thirst; and in the hells, there is origination, only one womb, the spontaneously arisen. 800. Among earth-dwelling gods, among humans, among animals and asuras likewise; and among the remaining hungry ghosts, all four wombs exist. 801. Among these, the egg-born and womb-born, are called 'womb-lying origination'; The moisture-born and spontaneously arisen, are called 'spontaneously arisen'. 802. Among these, the 'womb-lying origination' is complete in sense-faculties; Absence and two states, mixed with female and male states. 803. The 'spontaneously arisen' is complete or incomplete; Absence and two states, in the four realms of misery. 804. The 'spontaneously arisen' with complete sense-faculties, in the happy abodes of the sense-sphere; In the beginning of the eon, absence, and two states thereafter. 805. The 'spontaneously arisen' with incomplete sense-faculties, and absence in the fine-material sphere; Thus, there are ten kinds, all origination at rebirth-linking. 806. In the origination of a being, divided into these ten ways; One should discern the origination of matter, at rebirth-linking and in the course of life. 807. Among those beings without a state, in 'womb-lying origination'; Due to body and base, there are only two karma-born decads. 808. The heads of the matter-continuum, and twenty kinds of matter; By not taking what has been taken, eleven are specified there. 809. Thereafter, in the course of life, for the growing being; The eye-decad and so on, four kinds of origination occur. 810. Thus, for beings without a state, six at the highest limit; Two at the lowest limit, in 'womb-lying origination'. 811. Due to eye, ear, and nose, there are three, two, and one lacking; One, three, and three, may be three, four, and five decads. 812. In the 'spontaneously arisen' state, in the origination of those without a state; Tongue, body, base are three at the lowest end. 813. At the highest end there are six in the intervening space; Four-fives there, two less, three each. 814. Sixes and so on, of non-existents, thus five collections; One, three, three, and one, and one, in due order. 815. Of existents, of both kinds, seven and so on are twofold; Those beginning with existence, as stated, would be nine, ninefold. 816. Seven from the top, below, three-fours in between; Four-fives and sixes, five-sixes also twofold. 817. Due to the three, seven-six-fives; Four-three-twos, six sections as appropriate. 818. Two, seven, and nine, five, three, and one, in due order; The aggregates of the series of forms, are twenty-seven. 819. Karma-born things, as appropriate, arise moment by moment; In the rebirth and arising of beings in the sense-sphere. 820. There, the series-heads, and forms, as appropriate; In the manner stated before, should be specified everywhere. 821. The element of heat, known as cold, heat, and season, at the moment of persistence; At the moment of conjunction, generates the eightfold form born of season. 822. Having passed the rebirth moment, the mind, the eightfold born of mind;
