The five sense-objects, are exclusively present objects. 323. The eight great resultant minds of the sense-sphere, and the three investigating minds; And the mind that produces a smile, these twelve minds. 324. May have past, present, and future objects; The nine wholesome and unwholesome minds in the sense-sphere, and functional minds. 325. The two supernormal knowledge minds, may have past and so forth as objects; Even in the present and concepts, they are indescribable. 326. All the remaining minds, in the form and formless realms; Are indeed indescribable, with past objects and so forth. 327. Five functional minds from the sense-sphere, the fifth functional mind from the form-sphere; For these six minds, there is nothing that is not an object. 328. Nibbāna, and the fruit, the path, form, and the formless too; Tell me how many minds, can make these their object. 329. Four connected with knowledge, From wholesome kamma and functional kamma; The two supernormal knowledges, and the functional determining mind. 330. All eleven minds, can make their object; Nibbāna, and the fruit, the path, form, and the formless too. 331. Mind Among all these, tell me how many minds; Can make the path and fruit of Arahantship their object. 332. Among all minds, listen to me, there are six minds; That can make the path and fruit of Arahantship their object. 333. The four associated with knowledge, and also the functional determining mind; The functional supernormal knowledge mind-element, these six can be the object. 334. The four associated with knowledge, and the supernormal knowledge mind from merit; Cannot make the path and fruit of Arahantship their object. 335. Why the path-mind of an Arahant, or the fruit-mind; Ordinary people or trainees, indeed cannot know. 336. An ordinary person does not know, The mind of a Stream-enterer; A Stream-enterer does not know, The mind of a Once-returner. 337. A Once-returner does not know, the mind of a Non-returner; A Non-returner does not know, the mind of an Arahant. 338. The lower ones indeed do not know, the higher ones; The higher ones know, the mind of the lower ones. 339. Whatever state, of whatever state, Becomes indeed the object; Taking each one up, I will explain from now on. 340. Meritorious object in the sense-sphere, for the meritorious and unmeritorious, And also for the supernormal knowledge mind, for the meritorious and functional. 341. For the sense-sphere resultant, and also for the sense-sphere functional; Of these six groups, it can be the object. 342. Form-sphere merits, excluding sense-sphere resultants from that; Indeed become objects for five groups. 343. And also formless-sphere meritorious, and of the three-plane meritorious; And also of the three-plane functional, and likewise of the unmeritorious. 344. Of the formless-sphere resultants, and of the two, the fourth pair; Of these eight groups, it is the object condition. 345. And also unincluded merit, and from the sense-sphere; And also of the fifth from the form-sphere, of the meritorious and functional. 346. Indeed it is always the object for four groups; Likewise the unmeritorious, from the sense-sphere and form-sphere. 347. And also of the meritorious and functional, and likewise of the unmeritorious; Of the sense-sphere resultants, six... spoken of these groups. 348. Resultant as object in the sense-sphere, and from the sense-sphere, and from the fine-material sphere, of wholesome and functional. 349. Of sense-sphere resultants, and likewise of unwholesome, of these six groups, it is the object condition. 350. Resultant as object in the fine-material sphere, and from the sense-sphere, and from the fine-material sphere, of wholesome and functional. 351. And of unwholesome, it is the range of five groups. In immaterial-sphere resultants, this same method is known. 352. Even unincluded resultant, from the sense-sphere and from the fine-material sphere, and of wholesome and functional, is indeed an object. 353. This functional consciousness in the sense-sphere, and from the sense-sphere, and from the fine-material sphere, of wholesome and functional. 354. Of sense-sphere resultant, and likewise of unwholesome, of these six groups, it is the object condition. 355. That functional mind in the fine-material sphere, except for sense-sphere resultant, of five groups, is indeed an object. 356. Functional consciousness in the immaterial sphere, and of those five, and of immaterial functional, is indeed the range of six. 357. Form arisen from four causes, known as form-object, of sense-sphere wholesome, and likewise of wholesome. 358. Of the two supernormal knowledges, and of sense-sphere resultant and functional, of these six groups, it is the object condition. 359. Nibbāna as object, from the sense-sphere and fine-material sphere, and of wholesome of both, and of sense-sphere and fine-material functional. 360. And from the unincluded, and of resultant wholesome, of these six groups, it is the object condition. 361. All of various kinds, concept as object, of wholesome of the three planes, and likewise of unwholesome. 362. Of fine-material and immaterial resultant, and of functional of the three planes, of these nine groups, it is the object condition. 363. Two are form-object-having, two two are faith-etc.-range-having; called five-object-having, three consciousness-arisings are known. 364. Here forty-one indeed, are known as six-object-having; this is the object sequence of sense-sphere consciousness. 5. Having avoided the five supernormal powers, form and formless, taintless (states); All these mind-arisings, have mental objects as their range. 366. The first formless wholesome (mind), of the second formless mind, Of the wholesome, of the resultant, of the functional, may be the object. 367. This first formless resultant (mind), of the second formless mind, Of the wholesome, of the resultant, of the functional, is not the object. 368. But the first functional mind, of the second formless mind, Is not of merit, nor of result, but is the object. 369. But the first functional mind, of the second formless mind, Is the object of the functional, thus should be known by the discerning. 370. For the ordinary person, for the trainee, the formless object is of two kinds: Wholesome, and also of the wholesome, and of the resultant, it may be. 371. For the monk whose taints are destroyed, the first formless mind Has a threefold object, thus it was said by the Great Seer. 372. Functional is also functional, and wholesome is also functional; But wholesome is of the resultant, thus it is threefold. 373. And the third formless mind, of the fourth formless mind; Just so, it is twofold, and threefold, the object may be. 374. Whatever, indeed, is taken as object here, whatever arises as its range; That, for those and those, becomes the object condition. 375. And indeed, the person who crosses the shore of this, which is difficult to cross, supreme, crosses here; That one crosses the shore of the great ocean of Abhidhamma, which is difficult to cross, supreme, indeed. Thus, in the Abhidhammāvatāra, the section on the analysis of objects, named The Sixth Chapter. 7. The Seventh Chapter Explanation of the Occurrence of Resultant Minds 376. By the one with infinite knowledge, taintless, by that one seeking virtues, compassionate; For the sake of mental skill in the results spoken of, listen to the arising of resultant minds. 377. Twenty-nine kamma (actions), thirty-two results are shown; Kamma (actions) in three doors, results are seen in six. 378. Wholesome (kamma) in the sense-sphere world, in the course of rebirth-linking; Having approached this and that condition, gives various results. 379. By one volition, one rebirth-linking is declared; By various kamma, various rebirths arise. Connections. 380. And whatever kamma is three-rooted, designated sense-sphere; it gives three-rooted, two-rooted, and rootless result. 381. And whatever kamma is two-rooted, that gives no three-rooted; it gives two-rooted and rootless result of its own. 382. By three-rooted kamma, relinking is three-rooted; it can also be two-rooted, but is not rootless. 383. By two-rooted kamma, relinking is two-rooted; it can also be rootless, but is not three-rooted. 384. Unprompted, unprompted, and prompted it gives; Prompted, unprompted, and prompted result likewise. 385. Here, by one volition of wholesome [kamma], sixteen kinds of result-consciousnesses arise, it is declared. 386. By the object, there is a change of feeling; and the registering consciousness is determined by impulsion. 387. If relinking is taken by a sense-sphere consciousness, wholesome and so on, by a similar result-consciousness. 388. When a strong, desirable object comes within eye's range; the mind-element in life-continuum, when turned by that. 389. When process-consciousnesses arise, like eye-consciousness; impulsion arises, becoming the first sense-sphere mind. 390. Having impulsed seven times, when the first wholesome has ceased; making that same object, and similar to that again. 391. A result-consciousness arises, called 'registering'; due to relinking's similarity, it's called 'root-life-continuum'. 392. And here, that investigating, seeing, receiving; the consciousnesses that fall into calculation, are indeed four. 393. When indeed the second consciousness, is a wholesome impulsion then; a result similar to that, would be a registering. 394. Due to relinking's dissimilarity, it obtains two names: 'adventitious life-continuum', and 'registering'. 395. When indeed the third wholesome impulsion occurs by that; a third result similar, would be a registering. 396. 'Adventitious life-continuum', this too is called; but by this sound... and six, and the previous five. 397. When the fourth wholesome, impulsion arises, and by that; The corresponding fourth resultant,
