of the six supernormal powers and four analytical knowledges in the Vinaya. Indeed, in the Verañja section (Pārājika 12), only the three knowledges are explained. In the second, the emphasis "only of those" is made considering the four analytical knowledges, because even the three knowledges are included among the six supernormal powers. "And of those"—here, by the word "and," the existence of others there as well is shown. Indeed, in the Abhidhamma Pitaka, the three knowledges, the six supernormal powers, and the four analytical knowledges are indeed stated. To show the state of the analytical knowledges being well explained right there, the emphasis "right there" is made. "Appropriated contact" means contact leading to the path by means of the path. "Of those" means of those Pitakas. "This" means this word of the Buddha. "Only thirty-four suttas"— this is the meaning-application of the verse: of which collection, by counting the suttas, there are only thirty-four suttas; by way of collection into sections, there are three sections of which there is a collection— that is a collection of three sections. That first collection here is the Dīgha Nikāya. "Conforming" means not contrary. Because it conforms to the meaning, it is a meaningful name— thus it is said. "Even one collection" means one group. Also. Thus variegated, thus diverse. As these, as these. The Poṇika and Cikkhallika khattiyas, their dwelling is called "Poṇika assembly, Cikkhallika assembly." "Encompassed by fifteen sections" means encompassed by fifteen sections. In the reading "thousands of suttantas, and seven hundreds of suttas", it should be construed as "seven thousands of suttantas, and seven hundreds of suttas". But in some places, the reading is "seven thousands of suttas, and seven hundreds of suttas". "Indicated previously" means indicated in the exposition of the Suttanta Piṭaka. "Veda" means knowledge. "Delight" means joy. "By way of aggregates of Dhamma" means by way of masses of Dhamma. "Eighty-two thousand received from the Buddha" is the connection. "Two thousand from the bhikkhus" means I received two thousand taught by the bhikkhus such as the General of the Dhamma. "Me" means in my heart, thus Venerable Ānanda refers to himself. The construction is: "Those teachings that are present in my heart, those are eighty-four thousand." And this was said by way of the aggregates of Dhamma learned during the time the Blessed One was alive. But after the Blessed One had attained Parinibbāna, by way of the Subha Sutta and the Gopakamoggallāna Sutta taught by Venerable Ānanda, and by way of the Kathāvatthu treatise spoken by Venerable Moggaliputtatissa at the Third Council, it should be understood that the aggregates of Dhamma are even more than eighty-four thousand. "A sutta with a single theme" means such as the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta. "One with many themes" means such as the Parinibbāna Sutta. For that occurred in various places by way of various Dhamma teachings. The division into triads and dyads in the Dhammasaṅgaṇī should be taken by way of the Exposition Section and the Commentary Section. "The division of mind-sections" means this is said by way of the Section on the Arising of Consciousness. In "There is a basis," etc., "basis" means such as the Sudinna Section. "Mātikā" means A precept. An intermediate offense is an offense enacted concerning another matter between precepts. Cutting off by threes is the division of offenses by threes, such as those entailing expiation. "The Buddha's word was collected" is the connection. "Of it" means of the Buddha's word. Thus, in the Vimativinodanī, the commentary to the Vinaya, the Samantapāsādikā, The section describing the account of the First Great Council is finished. Description of the account of the Second Council Having thus shown the First Great Council, and showing by way of conclusion that for which it was shown here, he says "of this," and so on. "Named with the glory of the rose-apple" means that the island whose name is glorious like a rose-apple tree, is called Jambudīpa. For the island is also called "Jambu" because it is marked by a great rose-apple tree. "Without being cut off, without perishing." "It is permissible to take salt mixed with horn" Here, the word "kappa" means "option," by which it is said "the option of salt mixed with horn." is not allowed. This means that the other side is allowed, and so it is everywhere. There, it is allowed to carry salt with a horn and eat it with a salt-free alms-food, the intention is that one does not make a store. It is allowed, the two-finger allowance, meaning it is allowed to eat food in the wrong time when the shadow has passed two fingers. It is allowed, the village-to-village allowance, meaning it is allowed for one who has announced "I will go to another village" to eat food that is not left over. It is allowed, the residence allowance, meaning it is permissible to perform separate Sangha acts like Uposatha in different dwellings within the same boundary. It is allowed, the permission allowance, meaning it is allowed to perform an act by a group or the Sangha while those who are not present are still absent, with the intention of getting their permission when they arrive, and then to get their permission later, the intention is that it is not a group act. It is allowed, the customary allowance, meaning what is customary for teachers and preceptors is allowed. But it should be understood that some of these are allowed and righteous, and some are not allowed and unrighteous. It is allowed, the unchurned allowance, meaning it is allowed for one who has eaten and announced to eat milk that has lost its milk-state but has not yet reached the curd-state, if it is not left over. It is allowed to drink young liquor, here, young liquor means young surā, the intention is that it is permissible to drink a mixture of ingredients for intoxicants that has been put together but has not yet reached the state of an intoxicant. Gold and silver, here, that which is always gold without undergoing a change in its essence is called jātarūpa, gold. That which shines with a white nature is rajata, silver. The connection is that these co-residents are to be known as renowned. Sāṇasambhūta means the elder Sambhūta, a resident of the Sāṇa country. The second compilation is to be connected. Pannabhārā means those whose burden of the aggregates has fallen. They say 'Abbudanti' means they speak of trouble. Some say, "Abbudanti is an act of theft because it is stealing the Buddha's words and proclaiming one's own words." This is an example to be spoken of. Visible faces, face to face.
