Therein, wholesome is divided into four types according to the realm, such as the realm of desire and so on. Unwholesome is of one type only, resultant is of four types, functional is of three types, thus the distinction should be understood here in various ways. Herein, however, wholesome volition in the realm of desire, arising simultaneously, is a condition of karma arising simultaneously for the mental states associated with itself in the five-aggregate existence and for the material form produced by the mind, and in the four-aggregate existence, only for the associated aggregates. But having arisen and ceased, it is a condition for its resultant aggregates and for material forms by the condition of karma occurring at different moments, solely by its having been done. And that is only in the five-aggregate existence, not elsewhere. Wholesome volition in the realm of form, arising simultaneously, is exclusively a condition of karma arising simultaneously for the mental states associated with itself and for the material forms produced by the mind. But having arisen and ceased, it is a condition for its resultant states and for material forms by the condition of karma occurring at different moments. But wholesome volition in the formless realm and the supramundane realm, arising simultaneously, is a condition of karma arising simultaneously. Here, in the five-aggregate existence, volitional action is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, for its associated mental states, and for materiality born of mind. In the four-aggregate existence, it is a condition only for associated aggregates, through co-nascence-kamma condition. But having arisen and ceased, both of these are a condition, through diverse-moment-kamma condition, only for their respective resultant aggregates. Unwholesome volitional action, co-arisen, in the five-aggregate existence, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, for its associated aggregates, and for materiality born of mind. In the four-aggregate existence, it is a condition only for immaterial aggregates, through co-nascence-kamma condition. But having arisen and ceased, it is a condition, through diverse-moment-kamma condition, for resultant aggregates, and for materiality caused by temperature. Resultant volitional action, belonging to the Sensuous and Form realms, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, for its associated mental states, for materiality born of mind in the course of existence, and for materiality caused by temperature at rebirth. Resultant volitional action, belonging to the Formless realm, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, only for its associated mental states. Supramundane resultant volitional action, in the five-aggregate existence, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, for its associated mental states, and for materiality born of mind. In the four-aggregate existence, it is a condition only for immateriality. Volitional action of mere-effect, belonging to the three realms, in the five-aggregate existence, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, for its associated mental states, and for materiality born of mind. That which arises in the Formless realm here, is a condition, through co-nascence-kamma condition, only for immaterial states. Thus, here, the arising of conditions and conditioned states should be understood in this way, according to the decision. Explanation of the Specification of Kamma Condition. 14. Explanation of the Specification of Resultant Condition 14. In the Specification of Resultant Condition, "the four aggregates are resultant" because materialities born of kamma are not resultant. Therefore, having said "resultant," it is said "the four aggregates." Thus, this passage has come in the way of resultant condition, only for immaterial states. But in the question section, "one resultant-indeterminate aggregate is a condition, through resultant condition, for three aggregates and for materiality born of mind. At the moment of rebirth, one resultant-indeterminate aggregate is a condition for three..." Because of the cutting of aggregates and the arising of materiality due to resultant condition, resultant condition is also obtained for mind-originated and kamma-originated materiality. But here, the teaching is given in a residual way. This is the word-explanation here. But this resultant condition, being of one kind by nature as resultant, is divided into four kinds by division of planes, such as the sense-sphere. Thus, the decision here should be understood by various kinds of distinctions. Herein, in this divided condition, sense-sphere and form-sphere resultants are resultant condition for co-arisen states, for mind-originated materiality in its own course, and for materiality cut off at rebirth. Formless-sphere resultant is only for co-arisen states. Supramundane resultant in the five-aggregate existence is resultant condition for co-arisen states and for mind-originated materiality, and in the four-aggregate existence, it is resultant condition only for co-arisen aggregates. Thus, the arising of conditions here should also be understood as a decision. Explanation of the exposition of resultant condition. 15. Explanation of the exposition of nutriment condition. 15. In the exposition of nutriment condition, palatable food is nutriment. In materiality arisen from the thirty-four combinations, nutriment is called nutritive essence. But since it performs the function of nutriment only after making a mouthful and ingesting it, not while standing outside, therefore, without saying "nutriment," it is said "palatable food is nutriment." Or, because it is an object to be made into a mouthful and ingested, this name "palatable food" is for it. Non-material nutriment is contact, volition, and consciousness nutriment. "Of those arisen from them" here also includes kamma-originated ones. For it was said in the question section: "At the moment of rebirth, resultant indeterminate nutriment is condition by way of nutriment condition for co-arisen aggregates and for materiality that is cut off." This is the word-explanation here. But this nutriment condition, in brief, is four things: palatable food, contact, volition, and consciousness. Therein, setting aside palatable food, the remaining three non-material nutriment are divided into four kinds by nature, as wholesome, unwholesome, resultant, and functional. Again, by division of planes, wholesome They are divided in many ways: Fourfold wholesome, Singular unwholesome, Fourfold resultant, Threefold functional. But material food is by nature indeterminate, And in terms of plane, belongs to the sense-sphere. Thus, the determination here Should be understood in various distinctions. Herein, among these distinctions, The three wholesome foods of the four planes Are, in the five-aggregate existence, A condition by way of nutriment For their associated states And for the mind-originated matter. Except for the form-sphere, The remaining formless spheres Are a condition by way of nutriment Only for their associated states. The same method applies To unwholesome foods. The resultant foods of the four planes, however, Are a nutriment condition For their associates everywhere. The sense-sphere and form-sphere resultant states, Arising in the five-aggregate existence, In the course of existence, Are a nutriment condition For mind-originated matter, And at rebirth, For karma-produced matter as well. The supramundane, however, Are only for mind-originated matter. Arising in the formless sphere, They are not a condition for matter. The three functional foods of the three planes, In the five-aggregate existence, Are a condition by way of nutriment For their associated states And for mind-originated matter. The sense-sphere and form-sphere states, however, In the formless sphere, Are a condition by way of nutriment Only for their associated states. Material food, arising from four-and-seventy sources, Although spoken of non-specifically as "of this body," Specifically here, Being both a generator and maintainer Of nutriment-produced matter, Is a condition by way of nutriment. For what arises from the remaining three-and-seventy sources, Being only a maintainer, It is a condition by way of nutriment. Thus, the determination here Should be understood also In terms of condition and arising. The explanation of the nutriment condition is complete. 16. Explanation of the Faculty Condition 16. In the explanation of the faculty condition, "Eye-faculty" means the faculty known as the eye. "By the faculty condition" means Being itself prenascent, From the arising up to the dissolution Of immaterial states, It is a condition by way of the faculty condition. The same method applies To the ear-faculty and so on. "Immaterial faculties" here includes The immaterial life-faculty as well. "Of those arising" here... And the generated-form is included in the same way as stated below. For it was said in the question section: "At the moment of rebirth, the resultant-indeterminate faculties are conditions by way of faculty-condition for the associated aggregates and for the generated-forms." Thus, the explanation of the text here should be understood. Now, this faculty-condition stands on the basis of twenty-two faculties, excluding the female and male faculties. For although the female and male faculties are the seeds of female and male characteristics, etc., even when they are present in the kalala stage, since female and male characteristics, etc., are absent, they do not affect them, nor do they affect others, as faculty-condition. For there is no faculty-condition that does not affect the co-arisen phenomena at the moment of its existence; therefore, they are not faculty-conditions. But for those to whom they are seeds, they function as natural-support condition in the Suttanta method.
