(1) A phenomenon accompanied by joy is a condition for a phenomenon accompanied by happiness by way of the root condition – Roots accompanied by joy are a condition for associated aggregates accompanied by happiness by way of the root condition. A phenomenon accompanied by happiness is a condition for a phenomenon accompanied by happiness…etc… for a phenomenon accompanied by joy…etc… for a phenomenon accompanied by joy and by happiness…etc… (three in the root of happiness). A phenomenon accompanied by equanimity is a condition for a phenomenon accompanied by equanimity by way of the root condition – Roots accompanied by equanimity are a condition for associated aggregates by way of the root condition. Having given a gift with a mind associated with joy, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one reflects on that with a mind associated with joy. Having emerged from jhanas associated with joy, having emerged from paths, having emerged from fruits, one reflects on that with a mind associated with joy. Noble Ones reflect with a mind associated with joy on defilements associated with joy that have been abandoned, reflect on defilements that have been suppressed, know defilements that were accumulated previously. They discern, enjoy, and delight in aggregates associated with joy with a mind associated with joy as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; referring to that, craving associated with joy arises, wrong view arises. Referring to aggregates associated with joy, aggregates associated with joy arise. (1) A state associated with joy is conditioned by object-condition for a state associated with pleasure. Having given a gift with a mind associated with joy, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one reflects on that with a mind associated with pleasure. Having emerged from jhanas associated with joy, having emerged from paths, having emerged from fruits, one reflects on that with a mind associated with pleasure. Noble Ones reflect with a mind associated with pleasure on defilements associated with joy that have been abandoned, reflect on defilements that have been suppressed, know defilements that were accumulated previously. They discern, enjoy, and delight in aggregates associated with joy with a mind associated with pleasure as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; referring to that, craving associated with pleasure arises, wrong view arises. A state associated with joy... Based on those aggregates, aggregates accompanied by pleasure arise. (2) The phenomenon accompanied by joy is a condition by way of object condition for the phenomenon accompanied by equanimity – With a mind accompanied by joy, having given a gift, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one reviews that with a mind accompanied by equanimity. Having emerged from jhānas accompanied by joy, having emerged from paths, having emerged from fruits, one reviews that with a mind accompanied by equanimity. Noble Ones, with a mind accompanied by equanimity, review the abandoned defilements accompanied by joy. They review the suppressed defilements, they know the defilements accumulated previously. The aggregates accompanied by joy, with a mind accompanied by equanimity, they discern as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self; they enjoy them, they delight in them. Based on that, lust accompanied by equanimity arises, wrong view arises, doubt arises, restlessness arises. By means of the knowledge of penetrating others' minds, they know the mind of one endowed with a mind accompanied by joy. The aggregates accompanied by joy are a condition by way of object condition for the knowledge of penetrating others' minds, for the knowledge of recollecting past lives, for the knowledge of knowing how beings fare according to their kamma, for the knowledge of future events, and for advertence. Based on the aggregates accompanied by joy, aggregates accompanied by equanimity arise. (3) The phenomenon accompanied by joy is a condition by way of object condition for the phenomenon accompanied by joy and accompanied by pleasure – With a mind accompanied by joy, having given a gift, having undertaken precepts, having performed the Uposatha observance, one reviews that with a mind accompanied by joy and accompanied by pleasure. Having emerged from jhānas accompanied by joy, having emerged from paths, having emerged from fruits, one reviews that with a mind accompanied by joy and accompanied by pleasure. Noble Ones, with a mind accompanied by joy and accompanied by pleasure, review the abandoned defilements accompanied by joy. They review the suppressed defilements, they know the defilements accumulated previously. The aggregates accompanied by joy, with a mind accompanied by joy and accompanied by pleasure... by which they discern as impermanent, as suffering, as non-self, they enjoy, they delight.
