No. (B) Or for whom, where the underlying tendency of lust for existence is abandoned, for him, there, are the underlying tendency of sensual lust and the underlying tendency of aversion and the underlying tendency of conceit and the underlying tendency of views and the underlying tendency of doubt abandoned? For that same person, in painful feeling, there for him, the latent tendency of ignorance, and the latent tendency of aversion, and the latent tendency of views, and the latent tendency of doubt are abandoned; the latent tendency of sensual lust, and the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of lust for existence are not to be said "abandoned" or "not abandoned". (A) For whom the latent tendency of sensual lust is not abandoned, is the latent tendency of aversion not abandoned for him? Yes. (B) Or again, for whom the latent tendency of aversion is not abandoned, is the latent tendency of sensual lust not abandoned for him? Yes. (A) For whom the latent tendency of sensual lust is not abandoned, is the latent tendency of conceit not abandoned for him? Yes. (B) Or again, for whom the latent tendency of conceit is not abandoned, is the latent tendency of sensual lust not abandoned for him? For the Non-returner, the latent tendency of conceit is not abandoned, but for him the latent tendency of sensual lust is abandoned. For three types of individuals, the latent tendency of conceit is not abandoned and the latent tendency of sensual lust is not abandoned. For whom the latent tendency of sensual lust is not abandoned, for him the latent tendency of views... (etc.) Is the underlying tendency of doubt not abandoned? For two individuals, the underlying tendency of sensual desire is not abandoned, but for them, the underlying tendency of doubt is abandoned. For the ordinary person, both the underlying tendency of sensual desire and the underlying tendency of doubt are not abandoned. Or for whom the underlying tendency of doubt is not abandoned, for him is the underlying tendency of sensual desire not abandoned? Yes. For whom the underlying tendency of sensual desire is not abandoned, for him is the underlying tendency of desire for existence... ...the underlying tendency of ignorance not abandoned? Yes. Or for whom the underlying tendency of ignorance is not abandoned, for him is the underlying tendency of sensual desire not abandoned? For the non-returner, the underlying tendency of ignorance is not abandoned, but for him, the underlying tendency of sensual desire is abandoned. For three individuals, both the underlying tendency of ignorance and the underlying tendency of sensual desire are not abandoned. 298. (A) For whom the underlying tendency of aversion is not abandoned, for him is the underlying tendency of conceit not abandoned? Yes. (B) Or for whom the underlying tendency of conceit is not abandoned, for him is the underlying tendency of aversion not abandoned? For the non-returner, the underlying tendency of conceit is not abandoned, but for him, the underlying tendency of aversion is abandoned.
