(Ka) Whoever understands the truth of suffering, did he abandon the truth of origin? No. (Kha) Or whoever abandoned the truth of origin, does he understand the truth of suffering? No. (Ka) Whoever does not understand the truth of suffering, did he not abandon the truth of origin? An Arahant does not understand the truth of suffering, but he did not not abandon the truth of origin. Excluding those endowed with the highest path and Arahants, the remaining individuals do not understand the truth of suffering and did not not abandon the truth of origin. (Kha) Or whoever did not abandon the truth of origin, does he not understand the truth of suffering? One endowed with the highest path did not abandon the truth of origin, but he does not not understand the truth of suffering. Excluding those endowed with the highest path and Arahants, the remaining individuals did not abandon the truth of origin and do not understand the truth of suffering. 5. Present-Future Section 169. (Ka) Whoever understands the truth of suffering, will he abandon the truth of origin? No. (Kha) Or whoever will abandon the truth of origin, does he understand the truth of suffering? No. (Ka) Whoever does not understand the truth of suffering, will he not abandon the truth of origin? Those who will attain the path do not understand the truth of suffering, but they will not not abandon the truth of origin. An Arahant and those ordinary people who will not attain the path do not understand the truth of suffering and the truth of origin… and will not abandon. (B) Or again, whoever will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering, does that one not fully understand the truth of suffering? One endowed with the highest path will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering, yet does fully understand the truth of suffering. An Arahant, and those ordinary people who will not attain the path, they will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering and do not fully understand the truth of suffering. 6. Chapter on Past and Future 170. (A) Whoever fully understood the truth of suffering, will that one abandon the truth of the origin of suffering? No. (B) Or again, whoever will abandon the truth of the origin of suffering, did that one fully understand the truth of suffering? No. (A) Whoever did not fully understand the truth of suffering, will that one not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering? Those who will attain the path did not fully understand the truth of suffering, yet they will abandon the truth of the origin of suffering. One endowed with the highest path, and those ordinary people who will not attain the path, they did not fully understand the truth of suffering and will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering. (B) Or again, whoever will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering, did that one not fully understand the truth of suffering? An Arahant will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering, yet did fully understand the truth of suffering. One endowed with the highest path, and those ordinary people who will not attain the path, they will not abandon the truth of the origin of suffering and did not fully understand the truth of suffering.
