(etc.) ...craving for tangibles lie latent in the tangible realm, included in the tangible realm? It should not be said thus... (etc.) Does craving for sounds lie latent in the sound realm, but it should not be said: "included in the sound realm"? Yes. Does formless craving lie latent in the formless realm, but it should not be said: "included in the formless realm"? It should not be said thus... (etc.) Does craving for smells... (etc.) ...craving for tastes... (etc.) ...craving for tangibles lie latent in the tangible realm, but it should not be said: "included in the tangible realm"? Yes. Does formless craving lie latent in the formless realm, but it should not be said: "included in the formless realm"? It should not be said thus... (etc.) 705. Should it not be said: "Craving for form lies latent in the form realm, included in the form realm, formless craving lies latent in the formless realm, included in the formless realm"? Yes. Surely sensual craving lies latent in the sensual realm, included in the sensual realm? Yes. If sensual craving lies latent in the sensual realm, included in the sensual realm, then surely it should be said: "Craving for form lies latent in the form realm..." lies within the realm of form; the passion for the formless lies within the realm of the formless.” The discourse on inclusion is concluded. 14. The Fourteenth Chapter (143) 8. Discourse on the Undetermined 706. Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Is resultant undetermined, functional undetermined, form, Nibbāna, the eye-base… …the touch-base? It should not be said thus… …Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Is contact associated with wrong view undetermined? It should not be said thus… …Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Is feeling associated with wrong view… …perception… …volition… …consciousness undetermined? It should not be said thus… Is contact associated with wrong view unwholesome? Yes. Is wrong view unwholesome? It should not be said thus… …Are feeling, perception, volition, consciousness associated with wrong view unwholesome? Yes. Is wrong view unwholesome? It should not be said thus… 707. Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Is it without fruit, without result? It should not be said thus… …Is it not with fruit, with result? Yes. If it is with fruit, with result, then surely it should not be said: “Wrong view is undetermined.” Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Are not the offenses culminating in wrong view spoken of by the Blessed One? Yes. If the offenses culminating in wrong view are spoken of by the Blessed One, then surely it should not be said: “Wrong view is undetermined.” Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One: “Wrong view, Vaccha, is unwholesome; right view is wholesome”? Is there such a discourse? Yes. If so, then it should not be said: “Wrong view is undetermined.” Is wrong view undetermined? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One: “For one with wrong view, Puṇṇa, I declare one of two destinations: either hell or the animal realm”? Is there such a Sutta? Yes. Then it should not be said – "Views are undeclared." 708. Should it not be said – "Views are undeclared"? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One – "'The world is eternal,' Vaccha, this is undeclared, 'The world is not eternal,' Vaccha, this is undeclared, 'The world is finite,' Vaccha, this is undeclared, 'The world is infinite,' Vaccha... 'The soul is the same as the body,' Vaccha... 'The soul is one thing, the body another,' Vaccha... 'The Tathāgata exists after death,' Vaccha... 'The Tathāgata does not exist after death,' Vaccha... 'The Tathāgata both exists and does not exist after death,' Vaccha... 'The Tathāgata neither exists nor does not exist after death,' Vaccha, this is undeclared!" Is there such a Sutta? Yes. Then views are undeclared. Are views undeclared? Yes. Has it not been said by the Blessed One – "For a person, monks, holding wrong views, whatever bodily action is undertaken in accordance with those views, and whatever verbal action... and whatever mental action, and whatever volition, and whatever aspiration, and whatever resolve, and whatever formations, all those things lead to what is undesirable, unlovely, unpleasant, unbeneficial, and to suffering!" Is there such a Sutta? Yes. Then it should not be said – "Views are undeclared." The discourse on the undeclared is finished. 14. The Fourteenth Chapter (144) 9. Discourse on the Unincluded 709. Are views unincluded? Yes. The path, the fruit, Nibbāna, the stream-entry path, the stream-entry fruit, the once-returner path, the once-returner fruit, the non-returner path, the non-returner fruit, the arahant path, the arahant fruit, mindfulness, right effort, bases of psychic power, faculty, power, factor of awakening? It should not be said thus... 710. It should not be said – "Views are unincluded..." "No?" "Yes." Is it to be said that an ordinary person is "free from passion for sensual pleasures"? "Yes." Is it to be said that he is "without wrong views"? It is not to be said so. Therefore, wrong view is not included. The discussion on "not included" is concluded. The Fourteenth Chapter. Its summary – An unwholesome root reconnects with a wholesome root, A wholesome root reconnects with an unwholesome root, The six sense bases and the six consciousness groups, Noble form based on the great elements, The same underlying tendency is that manifestation, Manifestation disconnected from mind, As the element, so it underlies, Wrong view is indeterminate, Wrong view is not included.
